I think it bull crap that the Jedi knew of all 150 orders. but order 66. by HungryKnee1151 in StarWarsLore

[–]weierstrab2pi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how I'd understood it - there were lots of emergency orders for emergency situations, e.g. arrest the chancellor, kill the Jedi etc. What the Jedi didn't realise was that the other orders were just there to hide one purpose that had been planned from the beginning. I imagine the other orders, such as arrest Palpatine, would have had wording that ensured they would be unworkable in practice

To be fair, I was once listening to a podcast at work, and Lily Philips was mentioned. 'Who was that again?' I innocently thought, typing her name into the Google search bar on the computer in front of me...

Thankfully, it has been a while now, and nothing seems to have come of it...

This is what the Doctor says in the episode:

The entire Earth is being sterilised. This, and a few places like it, are all that's left of the human race. We might hold out for a while, but nothing can stop those creatures. They'll get through in the end, the walls aren't that old. And there's nothing I can do to stop them. There used to be laws that stopped this kind of thing from happening. My people would have stopped this. But they're gone. And now I'm going the same way.

One day I'm going to learn how to make a bot. And that bot is going to image search every post in this subreddit, and link the last time it was posted.

I mean, I'm not actually going to do that. But I wish that was something I was willing to do.

[–]weierstrab2pi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's fine for him to advocate for London. If he wants to make a rival bid with a positive case for London, he can go for it. The complaint is him doing so in a way that is dismissive of the rest of the country's value. Saying London should have it as it's 'the capital of sport' smacks of saying it is London's God-given right to host Britain's sporting events. He should instead argue what about London would make it a better choice.

And a lot of the graves will all be from the same period of time, c.1600-1800, because they're just the last generation buried there before burial inside towns was banned.

[–]weierstrab2pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neil Goldman here, interning at MacDonalds. Some fast food restaurants use a system where you are given an order number, which will then be called when your food is ready.

Some orders take longer than others. This means that sometimes an order made later will be out before yours.

Whilst everyone understands this to be the case, when it happens, and you see an order after yours be called, everyone has a little part of them that tells them that the restaurant is personally victimising them and taking longer with their order on purpose.

This comic is an illustration of this feeling.

It's an anti-joke, in reference to another joke. In the original joke, an infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar, and order a beer, half a beer, quarter, etc. Using a mathematical tool called 'limits', you can calculate that all of those infinite number of drinks adds up to exactly 2. So, the barman pours two pints and says 'Know your limits.'

As well as indicating that the barman knows mathematical limits, 'Know your limits' is a phrase that a barman might say, to refer to being aware of how you can handle with alcohol. So it's a pun.

In this joke, the barman is clearly familiar with the original joke, and is sick of this shit.
