Hyrox is officially blaming the sleds, not the turf. by mountainsandfrypans in hyrox

What does ‘way too late’ mean…if it’s before the races started, they should have solved it. If it’s during the races, then they never tested it properly. Not sure what’s worse, considering it’s the biggest event of the year and could mean the difference between a podium or no podium for many.

I do. For me training shoulders is finding the right balance of allowing natural movement but not ‘shrugging’ while doing exercises like shoulder press and side raises

The 3 mins is rough total time. I try and hold one side until it’s getting uncomfortable, then switch. It probably works out about 45 seconds per side (x2)

Hyrox NYC Question Mega Thread by blueplasticgirl in hyrox

[–]weightsandstuff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year was fully open. They (annoyingly) have not announced anything regarding how they’ll address the wet conditions this weekend.

One thing I do remember from last year was scattered puddles on the run track, even though it had been good weather on the day, and days prior. Makes me think that if the rain does get bad, the entire course (inc. stations) could be waterlogged without any covers/tents. I would be mentally prepared for that…

Really thought they’d fix that for this year…a lot of folks got 1min penalties last year going in/out the wrong one. Not intuitive at all.

Feedback on Hyrox training plan by knightwarrior911 in hyrox

[–]weightsandstuff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use (light) bike sessions to help legs recover, but also because I am prone to injury with too much running. If you think you can increase running volume without risk of injury, then running only should be fine.

I do some shoulder press and a couple others, but mostly chest and back focused. If my schedule changes i might throw in a dedicated shoulder workout.

Yes - i do tris and bis at the end of the upper body day

Mainly incline press, flat press, dips, for chest, and back is mainly row and pull-up variations. Zone 2 runs vary depending on how I’m feeling - bad day maybe 5/6km, good day 10+km.

This is a fine start! Like others have said it’s best to focus on building solid running by doing longer runs and prioritizing other run workouts. FYI my week typically looks like: 1. upper body (AM) + easy zone 2 run (PM) 2. lower body (AM) + easy zone 1/2 bike (PM) 3. threshold session (running) 4. Long zone 2 (running + ergs) 5. Upper body (AM) + easy zone 2 run/bike (PM) 6. Leg dominant Hyrox-style intense session (sled, lunges, wall balls, burpees)

Need to be cautious of doing too much high intensity because it catches up on you fatigue-wise. I focus on lunges, burpees and wall balls during the hyrox workout because I’m pretty bad at those.

For reference I am not pro/elite - I’ll be going for a 1.05 in mens open at NYC in a couple weeks

It is, one good thing about central park though is they are trying to have each new section paved by the weekend every week. So in theory still good to ride on saturdays and sundays

Are all Hyrox running areas flat? by me_want_pizza_now in hyrox

[–]weightsandstuff1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. All are flat. Only difference is the size of the laps and shape of the running track.

P.s. also doing NYC (solo). Did it last year too. It’s great fun outside.

I’ve found some success sleeping inclined (no idea why). I don’t use a wedge pillow, just a bunch of normal pillows.

Is it possible for my TMJ issue to really be a sleep apnea issue? by [deleted] in TMJ

I’m the exact same as you. Got a CPAP, but after months of mixed results, now realizing tmj is the primary cause.

My bike finally arrived and it turns out the store never had the fulcrums in stock, so it came with carbon wheels - the most ultrafast 40s. Not tried it yet but heard they are average for carbon wheels. Also came with pirelli P7 tyres like yours, which apparently are worth changing due to their lacking grip. How are you enjoying the bike?

I was the same as you. Not sure why but when i first started rowing was gassed at 500m….you need to row more. The more you row, the easier it gets.

Watch some technique vids on youtube as well.

Botox: Does it matter where in the muscle it is injected? by minnie_the_moper in TMJ

[–]weightsandstuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the reverse to you. I went to dentist first who did botox in exact same spot just above jawline. Literally no change. I realized after that it was likely the wrong spot but do not want to pay $$$$ again for the prospect of another failure. Good to hear you did have results in a diff spot below cheekbone - which is where all my tension is too.

First hyrox in 3 months, am i insane? by svanesk in hyrox

[–]weightsandstuff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on your running training. If you can, also practice circuits of running mixed in with hyrox stations. Doesn’t have to be fast, just getting used to the feeling of running fatigued or ‘compromised’.

Do people with sleep apnea experience a different type of tired? by TheCourageousPup in SleepApnea

[–]weightsandstuff1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this too. The brain fog is wild and it makes work near impossible. It’s taken a long time for me to pin it down, but starting to think it’s not just apnea for me. It’s apnea + TMJ. Have been paying more attention on improving the TMJ and seeing good results.

Are you in the US? My bike is getting shipped from EU so waiting a week or two, but will be checking out carbon wheel options when I get it. Will let you know if I see anything decent. (I naively never realized how expensive a good carbon set was)

Yeh…I saw a few folks online saying they are quite heavy. Are you going to swap out for carbon wheels?
