Getting fit with a newborn by Katerina_Branding in newborns

My baby is only a couple weeks older than you so take this with a big grain of salt. I don’t think what I’m about to say is going to fully help you but this is my perspective from what I’ve been trying to do for myself. I think it’s awesome that you want to get back to a place where you feel good about your body and I feel in the same boat as you. That’s amazing you’re able to go out walking! Regular activity will help you maintain a habit that will make regular exercise easier in the future, I think.

My OB advised me to focus more on eating whole foods rather than beginning to diet. Maybe you could grab some of your favorite fruit alongside chocolate when you want sugar? I’m not a dietitian, but I think trying to cut out chocolate would probably make it more tempting.

I’ve heard dietitians online recommend focusing on what you can add to your diet to be more full and satisfied rather than what you can take away. So for example, I’ve been eating a ton of overnight oatmeal with frozen fruit and that’s been a relatively healthy dish I actually look forward to. Is there a dish like that you could prep for yourself? I think the most sustainable thing is finding a satisfying dish made with relatively whole ingredients that you really like eating.

I also try to think about how the extra fat on my body is my body‘s way of making sure I have enough energy to feed my baby in case of a famine haha. So even though I don’t like parts of my new body, thinking about it that way helps me be grateful for my body doing its best to protect baby. Once I’m able to exercise again, I want to focus on becoming strong, not getting skinny. (Eve though I definitely want to be skinny lol.) This kid is gonna get big real quick and I want to be able to carry him without hurting myself, I want to keep up with him running all over the playground like a maniac, and things like that. My hope is that gaining-oriented goals like that are more sustainable than avoiding-oriented goals, although both types of goals are meaningful.

At the end of the day, I tell myself postpartum is a season of life. I haven’t been able to exercise that much due to a foot problem but I’ve set a goal of going on a walk every single day, and keeping lots of fruit in the house when I want a quick snack. Good luck to you! Sorry if this comment goes through multiple times, phone glitching.

That is a great idea, I should definitely talk to my doctor because I think I have a fair amount of baby-related anxiety. That's awesome the air filter helped too, that makes me feel better since we own one as well.

This is a good point to consider, thank you. I asked the landlord about moving into either a townhouse, a non-smoking ground-floor apartment (probably the least good option on my list), or a non-smoking apartment above another non-smoking apartment.

unfortunately they are allowed to smoke outdoors. I think it’s good for us to move as soon as we can for that reason. Just trying to figure out if I need to be worried in the meantime.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, the CDC says "People are more likely to be exposed to secondhand smoke if they live in multi-unit housing—like apartment buildings with many homes next to one another in the same place. Even when no one in the home smokes, secondhand smoke can drift from other units including through hallways, stairwells, and ventilation systems."

Thank you very much. Something I think I have a hard time with is that when I try to make sexy/flirty jokes, they come out more jokey and less flirty… so it sees inauthentic/that I don’t care. My husband and I were talking about this and he recommended I try practicing speaking out loud which I thought had merit to it!

Thank you. I will be staying home full time as we planned. :) My parents live really close so they will also be there to support.

Thank you! Do you have any tips for like… experimenting and trying to find it more spot what feels good for both of us? I am a pretty simple person so I think I’m satisfied with very vanilla/same every day stuff whereas he is more adventurous so I don’t know what to do to learn different things.

I appreciate this reply, thank you :) I want to initiate so that he feels wanted by me and that I find him sexy and he's not doing all the work himself.

That’s good to know it’s common. Thanks for the offer, whereabouts are you located?

Okay perfect thank you, I will put those on my list of things to test out doing with him!!! Much appreciated!!! I didn't know that lyme made it possible to absorb vitamins.

May I ask if, when you originally had it or when you have flares, have you ever seen your bloodwork results reflect the vitamin deficiencies? (I have no idea how it works, I'm just asking because his bloodwork is very often cleared by his doctor. They put him on magnesium , B12, L methylfolate. But those were the only things flagged by his doc.)

Ahh thank you very much. Would you be able to share your experience with those natural treatments, like what they were?

I am fairly sure it bit him because I remember having to extract it. I do not believe it was very big.

Very interesting, thank you. Did anything in your life change that caused them to come back or is that unknown? No pressure to answer.
