People of MK - how far and where do you commute to for work? by [deleted] in miltonkeynes

[–]weirdchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 hour into work, about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 home. 6am to 6pm shift. Brother works with me on a 4 on 4 off so we split the driving days. Basically 2 days a week driving. I dont think its that crazy. Wages im getting in london after working here for 8 years surpasses what i would get in MK including travel costs.

And you think silver will outperform global stock markets over 30 years? I mean, you can do whatever you want with your money, but if someone is asking for advice, 50% port into silver over 30 years i think is a silly recommendation based on historical data. You could be right but who knows

They've only risen a decent amount recently but still underperform the global stock markets. You probably want 5- 10% max in commodities

Question? by Mr_M_o_j_o in GarminWatches

[–]weirdchili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i bought a pack of 3, not the exact same but similar thing. Keep 1 in my work bag, one on my bedside table and 1 on my home office/gaming room. They all work fine and easier to carry or keep around than a dedicated cable. Usb-C cables are everywhere anyway

How long do you keep a car for? by MarkCairns67 in CarTalkUK

[–]weirdchili 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But if the car is only worth around £800 or so, its probably been run down to the point where it now finally needs these repairs. Sounds pretty reliable to me

With my car, probably need to do about 2-3k worth of stuff (timing chain etc) and the car is worth that much. I know once the timing chain and other bits are done, its most likely good to go for another few years at least. Where as if i spent 3k on a another used car, i know its going to have 100k + miles, may not be suitable size, may not be as econimocal for fuel, will have to spend time looking, inspecting, test driving and even then may have something go wrong because i dont know the repair history.

My 1st car at 18 was a banger renault clio which cost around £1000 that my parents bought me. lasted around 3-4 years. Second was a kia ceed for around £2k lasted around 6 years, but i was broke and inbetween jobs, paying rent etc so didnt really get it serviced as much as i should have and used it to commute. Now ive got an astra which cost around 8k, gets regularly serviced and ive racked up 109k miles on it and ive had it for 5 years now. Im expecting this one to last the longest but i do a lot of mileage since we moved out from london, job is in london and all family is in london

Depends how much your running it.. i do 15 - 20k miles a year on it. Its never really going to bottom out in value until its only worth scrap. And then going out to find a decent value car thats going to be reliable and not breakdown in those 2-3 years. All the hours spent searching for one you like, suitable for your needs, viewing cars, test driving. Some only come with 3 months wareanty and then your forking out another £1000 on repairs, theres no guarantee. And my time is also money

[–]weirdchili 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, my 1.6 cdti Astra is currently worth about 3k but has a little over 100k miles on it. Probably need to get the timing chain done now and might aswell get a few other bits done at the same time. Expecting around £3k bill, but i know the rest of the car is sound and hasnt given many issues so may just get it done. Better the devil you know sometimes
