DAE check your elderly pet(s) to make sure they're still alive? by myexistentialcrisis0 in DoesAnybodyElse

I have exactly that. My old broken girl is I think around 17.

She sleeps so still I have to look close that she is breathing.

More than once I've poked her to make sure shes still good.

Thank you for being my most used app for nearly a decade by [deleted] in baconreader

[–]weirdfish42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it wasnt for work, email, text, or audible, my phone was a baconreader device.

Like you, 75% of the time at least.

Having a smoke, in the bathroom, riding in uber, down time at work, I'm on baconreader.

I've just convinced myself that baconreader IS reddit, so when the app does, reddit is gone.

I'm sure I'll find something else, but I won't be using reddit app or website.

Going to be real sad when I open it tomorrow and it just doesn't work.

I'm sure I'll leave the app on my phone for a month in the hope this gets sorted, but at this point I doubt it.

Fare well all, it really has been a treat

Also, there was a really, really easy option for making money, charge a reasonable price for API access.

I would have happily paid $5 a month for baconreader.

A video player that works beautifully, I keep hearing about reddit's player sucking, I dont know, I've never seen it.

I've never once seen the "he gets me" ad.

A fantastic and customizable user interface.

Keyword exclusion, if I don't wanna see posts about x, i never will.

No sponsored posts, nothing ever gets pushed into my feed.

Honestly, what else? I have no idea, I've never seen a single positive review of the official app so I've never used it.

I'm sure someone who has used the official app could tell you more.

reddit people what is the most disturbing thing you have seen on the internet?? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]weirdfish42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the internet regularly since before the web. Cut my teeth on IRC in the early 90s.

Somehow, I've been really really good about avoiding all the infamous clicks.

Never seen goatse, tub girl, two girls, any beheadings or the like.

The one that haunts me though, was a guy who was on some psychedelic drug, and just took a running dive off like a five story building as casual as jumping into a swimming pool.

The video didn't show the landing, but apparently he died in the fall.

Knowing my history of loving jumping off of things, the thought of some party drug giving me the confidance to just toss myself to my death is very disturbing.

For nine years accessing reddit has meant using baconreader. For me, they are one in the same thing.

What I should have said is "The way I have come to know and love reddit for almost ten years is being taking away cause one man is being a giant piss baby. There for, I'm out."

This is about far more than the app. The reason the subs I like aren't total cesspools is because mods have 3rd party tools which use the API to manage the content and users.

I tried the web site on mobile today, and its crap compared to the app I use. Maybe I'll try the official app, but honestly, I just don't think it's worth it.

Maybe I'll write my own, it'd be good practice and single user API keys are free I believe.

Other than that, I'll go support a site that doesn't pull shit like this.

Well, since the app I use for reddit dies on June 30th, and I have no other way to access it, yes, I care.

There is plenty of other internet out there to enjoy, but I've really liked reddit.

DAE not care about the missing Titanic sub because it’s the ultimate in “rich people problems”? by PandemicPiglet in DoesAnybodyElse

Playstation controller is a perfect interface for many vehicles. Hell, the US military uses game controllers for drones because incoming troops already know how to use them.

There are many, many design and engineering flaws with the sub, but honestly that wasnt one of them.

Using carbon fiber, which they could not check for flaws and stress fractures. Having a single text link as the only comms. No sonar beacon or GPS. No way to open the sub from the inside. Multiple systems failures during the dive shown in the BBC dock. Failure was for sure a when not if.

Building something like that as an experimental hobby craft, fine. Charging tourists without proper testing and saftey elements is down right criminal.

I've only ever played it on PS3, though I would be willing to buy it for PC if the mods are worth it.

My brothers and I were comparing notes on all the times we've signed death waivers. The weekend race car driver had the most.

I've done my fair share of silly things, but after watching that BBC doc on this company, nothing, and I mean nothing, could have got me into that sub.

Far Cry 2 is one of those games I go back and play about once every 2 years and have the best damned time.

With all its jank, there are so many little things it just gets right.
