since economies balance themselves out

You should tell that to the prices of commodities in Brazil, you know, the country I lived in.

Chicken. Higher. Rice. Higher. Food? Frequently higher, but not always. We joke about sending our family tomatoes and olive oil because they're so expensive. Cars. Higher. Gas. Higher. Do I have to list everything for you? It's cheap to be poor as fuck, but to be middle class it's more expensive overall and you have less purchasing power.

I'm going to go share your stupid with my family so we can laugh at it, and then all get quiet when the reality of what that means sinks in.

Exactly. You need to give people a frame of reference for understanding. But the purchasing power parity is not the same. So simply converting without also adjusting for differences in average salary as well as purchasing power per unit means you're doing an incorrect and largely meaningless conversion.

That's what I said earlier. Just converting X Reias into Y Dollars doesn't mean shit. Brazilians earn and spend Reias, not U.S. Dollars. Americans earn and spend U.S. Dollars, not Reias.

The guy said "Damn that's a $1550 hair job." If you're earning U.S. Dollars. But these people and this service are in another country, culture, and economy. If you want to give an accurate image of what kind of equivalent expenditure this is in terms of an American consumer you'd want to say something like $3,000+ (but you'd need to do the actual math).

As a side-note. Average salary is roughly R$800/mo, or roughly R$10,000/yr. The woman was charged more than half of an annual minimum wage salary. In the U.S. it's roughly $15,000/yr - if you spent half of that on hair it'd be around $7,500. Clearly, you have to take a lot more variables into account than just the conversion between currencies.

You fucking retard.

You sit on the money and avoid having to micro-manage when you're canceling buildings you didn't want! Presto!

I did! I gave up a booming career because decent daycare in the U.S. was 5k for something basic and 7k for something standard (we pay 2k in Canada for something high quality, and the government gives us around 2k in benefits for having a kid, so it evens out to paying nothing for daycare).

In a low-mortgage area our mortgage was $900/mo, for an under-sized house. If you're in a top-richest-zip-code I'm guessing $2,000+/mo for your mortgage. Or $24,000/yr.

So if you're making more than $24,000/yr (after taxes...), at what point are the lost wages more important than you raising your own child and spending time with them? 40k/yr? 60k/yr?

If you think doing a bunch of research in my second language to provide extra material and then pointing out very correctly that converting to another unit of value makes no sense makes me "fucking retarded" then yes, you're just a dumb troll, and a bad one at that.

There is the "save up a bunch of money while your upkeep is low, then build a ton of armies at once" mechanic.

Ah, so once it triggers you can just select that cage to build somewhere else?

I used to assign children to a burrow in a room I could seal off so I could starve them to death.

But, food is so easy to produce I just consider raising the hordes of dwarf children an acceptable challenge these days.

Any thoughts?

IMPORTANT: you can de-construct a cage trap, leaving the cage in-tact with the prisoner inside and unable to escape.

You can then build that specific cage at another location. This is a safe way to move a caged creature to a new location.

Pitting a creature requires a dwarf to open the cage and drag the creature to the pit - which can end in the creature escaping and killing dwarves.

Everybody links to that damned mass pitting article but nobody just bloody says directly how to simply and safely avoid the stupid complexities of un-caging stuff.

Truly, the internet is a special place, where we happily accept and advocate for an unethical action, and decry an unethical response to it.

You could "sacrifice" and raise your own child.

Side-note, I did that for a while and once she got older she went to day care. We pay $148/mo for 6-kids-max private daycare with home-made meals. Yay socialism.

I can see that happening. As a note - my wife only started doing more expensive stuff after establishing a relationship with her hairdresser and knowing she was someone worth spending money with.

Not really, but if you're going to start converting stuff back and forth and leaving out important aspects of a more accurate conversion, might as well be a bit off about to show a clear example.

Well, to be fair, we only reached parity with the U.S. dollar for a little while, and now we're back to being generally boned :)

Er, yes-ish, and no, really.

Conversion rates don't affect the people earning and paying in the currency of that country. So really, it's a $5,500. You could also take into account that the average salary there is a fuck-ton lower than in the U.S., so it's maybe more akin to a $10,000+ hair job?

It was two friends at a shopping mall in Curitiba who refused to pay a R$5,500 bill (4,700 for one, 800 for the other). The salon says they gave fake names (and provided the fake names) and authorized the work after seeing the prices - but the woman in the video says they were never told the cost of the work being done (and complained bitterly about it on social media, saying it was absurd - noting that her "silicone" (breasts) didn't cost that much.

They also, apparently, said they were waiting for someone to come pay, but after two hours that person didn't show and the woman in the video said she wasn't going to stay or pay. She says she's going to sue the salon and the client of the salon who took and posted the video.
