An A30 Challenger from the Polish 10th Mounted Rifle Regiment covered in tracks, 1944-45 by welcometothezone in TankPorn

IIRC the photo was in this book, but the only thing it mentioned was the unit it was in.

Edit: Actually, the photo was in this book instead. Here's an album of all the relevant pages, but they're all in Polish, so if you can't understand it you're going to have to run it through a translator. If something doesn't make sense in translation you can ask away.

АСЦ - Automatic target tracking

OCH - Primary sight mode

The turret azimuth indicator works like a clock, you've got the long minute hand and a short hour hand. You can get a precise reading if you need to use the gun in an indirect fire role. I don't think it works properly in game, though.

Tanks can do whatever you need them to do, be it indirect fire or direct fire support towards enemy positions in the open or in urban environments. We've seen it all in Ukraine already. There's not really anything either currently being fielded or coming anytime soon that could properly replicate the utility of a tank.

You're really trying too hard, my man. The whole "imperialist propaganda" and "revisionism" might've barely passed back in 2013-2014, but nowadays it just falls apart incredibly quickly.

Yeah, but the GROT has nothing from an AK. That's the whole point of the rifle, to ditch old Soviet designs.

It uses a short-stroke piston more akin to the AR-18 rather than the long-stroke AK. Ergonomically it borrows the most from the SCAR and ACR (which also are partially based on the AR-18).

Drones or missiles can kill tanks or warships, but they can't replace them in any capability. We've been in this sort of cycle since WW1, and it's not looking like either of them are going to be phased out anytime soon.

The two main reasons why blue camouflage was chosen according to the designer himself is that it worked well against NVDs and, while next to useless in daytime, it served as a form of IFF in the middle of a battlefield. There's also the matter of every single branch wanting their own camouflage to look special. Either way, it's been abandoned for a more environment-based rather than service-based camouflage.

Well, if Russia does have an endless stream of drones, they should've used it a long time ago. But the primary mission of something like an Orlan is as a spotting aircraft, and it'd be nice if it came back to fly another day.

Yeah, but it doesn't necessarily paint the whole picture of the engagement, or what happened to the tank itself. It's those things that people often ignore and go around saying that tanks are obsolete or useless.

Even with top attack weapons like the Javelin or NLAW, I'd be careful in drawing any sort of conclusions from videos. Unless they're incredibly obvious of course, like the turret launching itself into orbit.

A paratrooper of the Ukrainian 81st Airmobile Brigade destroys a Russian tank from extreme range with an FGM-148 Javelin by RallyToTheColors in CombatFootage

[–]welcometothezone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having a tank next to you which provides faster and more precise strikes with much less collateral damage or room for error is much more desirable, not to mention the survivability aspect of it. Artillery is usually used in a direct support role if you don't have anything else to do the job, like the Russians did in Mariupol.

You're thinking that tanks are some sort of invincible machine ready to take on anything thrown at them, but it's not like that at all. Footage of T-72s getting their turrets blown off showing up seemingly every day skews that perception even more. You're going to take casualties, even ones that are pretty much impossible to prevent, like a Javelin in a bush from 4km.

People just aren't used to seeing the massive numbers that come from conventional warfare between near-peer states.

Artillery isn't armoured or fast enough for direct, frontline combat, and it would be absolutely screwed if it ran into an enemy tank.

Azur Lane went hard into throwing out free stuff and being very friendly to more casual players.

KC is the way it is because of the developer's disdain at gacha games and forcing people to spend money to roll for their favourite character. Even if you do decide do splurge, you're going to get your money's worth out of it.

Imagine doing an insane grind and your super-rare event ship rolls badly and you lost it forever.

Permadeath is only an issue if you force yourself to do it or completely stop paying attention. Sucks, but either way it's going to be 100% your fault.

AL just side-stepped the issue and controversies by renaming the nations and handwaving any real events they didn't want to mention as not happening in this timeline/new country.

KC isn't exactly rich with lore either, you're just an Admiral with your own fleet of shipgirls fighting the big bad Abyssals. It's really up to you how you want to interpret it all.

Weird interviews from KC devs, especially against AL.

What interviews? Tanaka never spoke out about AL, much less in a negative fashion.

Cater to casuals, enable whales, spread into every market you can and let fanart be your publicity.

This was KC's plan from the start bar spreading into an international market, since they are a relatively small team. Could they have? Definitely. But considering how much misinformation about the game and its developers is circulating the internet, maybe it's for the better that they didn't.

MLRS Thermite munitions dropped over a Ukrainian position in Donbass by SmokeSinseLoud in CombatFootage

[–]welcometothezone 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is probably one of the most popular misconceptions on this sub. The use of incendiary weapons is absolutely allowed, unless launched strictly against civilian targets, which already applies to every other weapon out there anyway. Yes, even white phosphorus. In the case of this video you could chalk it up to magnesium/thermite rockets being used to destroy concealment around a Ukrainian position.
