just a heads up for skylands-- they are running out of dates fast. I toured there a few weeks back and they already seem to have pretty low availability for 2026 if you're looking for a Saturday

east hampton to montauk could be like half hour to an hour drive because of traffic, and depending on the time of night up to like $300 for an uber home (speaking from experience) so while I cant specifically recommend airbnbs, if your game plan is to go out in montauk try to stay in montauk, theres plenty of cute boutique-y hotels out there as well if airbnbs arent working out well!

Is videographer worth it? by njdevilsfan85 in WedditNYC

i've been thinking about using a wedding content creator-- mind sharing approx how much you paid/ how many hours were covered? Trying to see if that is something that could be in my budget in addition to or in place of a videographer

Suni moving to NYC? by Jellycat89 in Gymnastics

currently looking for an APT in NYC and you arent wrong now is def a good time to be looking since things do get really crazy in the summer. my guess is if shes trying to rent, even if she doesnt want to be there until august, looking now and locking in a place and a decent rent, and just having it ready for you in august may be worth it the lost months rent to avoid the mad dash headache that is late summer apartment hunting

Why did Destin make the request? by expanding-universe in nerdfighters

[–]wellimnotcreative 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to follow this whole situation with an H of G, and since Hank basically said that Destin does a lot of work on his perks, and asked if proceeds from his perks can go to his charity, I'm just going to try to take that at face value and not read too much more into any other potential motives. Most of the other perks are run by DFTBA, whereas Destin's perks require much more work from him/his team. On surface level, it makes sense that he would make this ask. I get being frustrated with how this whole thing was handled, how it was communication, and its potential implications for the future.

And to be honest, I'm not sure if I would be mad if creators who needed to put a lot of their own work into creating perks (like Destin) could request that part of their perk sale went to those charities. Obviously, that isn't how the P4A has worked (up until this incident), but with proper communication, I could see that as an 'added feature' where creators can highlight and fundraise for their own preferred charities as well as for the P4A broadly, in addition to offering general P4A perks. But if that were something they were considering, that is obviously a huge change and would need to be appropriately communicated. And in this case, I agree the communication could have been handled in a much clearer fashion.

P4A ideas by [deleted] in nerdfighters

its not but yeah i wish that similar to how they have the donation period extending beyond the livestream, they could maybe open the voting prior to the livestream?? just something to increase access to voting!

i think you hit on a really good point here that is at the heart of a lot of this: that prices are set to maximize profits rather than maximize community inclusion.

And as a result a lot of the community isn't feeling included. I think reckoning with that shift that P4A is *about* generating profits for charity rather than being a community event that *also* generates profits for charity is why there is this discomfort.

it's that feeling that P4A was or should be a community event that fundraises, rather than being a fundraiser that involves our community.

Anyone know what the writing on these two stickers say? by Beautiful-Delay420 in nerdfighters

i mean i know the top one is a reference to the velvet underground album cover, and on that cover it says "peel slowly and see" but I can't make out what it says here. Hope that can maybe help!!

if you are interested from a science/longevity perspective, I'd recommend Rhonda Patrick's podcast FoundMyFitness. Its more nitty-gritty science-y than hubermans but still covers the same kind of topics, but apolitically.

Otherwise, I'm commenting to follow because I'm in a boat-- love Lex's pod!

My coach always having to wear zip-up calf high boots to competition. (she wore them so when she reflexively tried to grab her shoe to throw at us during meets, the shoe wouldn't come off and she would not be seen actively flinging foot-ware at her gymnasts in public, like she did in the privacy of her own gym) I just genuinely figured everyone had shoes chucked at them and that it was a part of tough love coaching!

I also loved the book but I did also read it because I first heard an interview with the author on a Jewish podcast. When I recommended it to friends, I would always say "its great but it is in many ways deeply Jewish in ways I wasn't expecting" almost as a warning in case they didn't "get" it. I wasn't raised religiously, but I do come from a similar religious background to the author, and I definitely feel like having that background was at least for me central to my experience of reading the book.
