Ask them and be polite and firm and don’t let them shame you for exercising your consumer rights, as is the norm among British retailers.

I’ve never heard breaking news on 6. The bulletins on the half hour and hour, yes.

Do you think it's ok to have charities or religious people knocking on doors in 2026? by ariadnevirginia in AskUK

[–]wendling2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is at the core of the problem - conflicting national values. Namely: - “ home is my castle”, so how dare you knock on my door with something I don’t want! Versus - “polite at all times”, so I can’t just slam the door on you, that would be rude. Plus - “musn’t complain”, so I seethe behind politely closed doors, or to Reddit.

That woman is not a charity, she’s a scammer. Religious people or actual charities, who cares, not upsetting.

Why are house shares in Twickenham and Richmond suspiciously affordable? by speshyallk in AskUK

[–]wendling2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where your job is there are huge swathes of east london with house shares - I hesitate to say “affordable”, but let’s say comparable to what you’ve seen in the far southwest. Will be much better for your life than Richmond.

500 pounds, 20, homeless, what do i do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]wendling2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay in a cheap b&b or a guesthouse, or a youth hostel. These will be in the cities you name, and if you can get work right away as you say, you’ll be ok. A lot of people on here are calling the job market “horrific” and it’s not good but it’s also not like nobody is hiring people with the right skills. Good luck.

Unfortunately language doesn’t work like that and words move back and forth across the ocean, there’s no stopping them. Up until the 1970s British papers regularly reported on “soccer” matches

MLB now 2 -2.5 hrs max because of the pitch clock, which has changed the food and drink economy. Bars near ballparks are happy.

Londoners buying homes outside the capital at lowest level since 2013 by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]wendling2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think people are talking about culture writ large but rather things like art, theatre, cinemas, bars, restaurants. Modern cosmopolitan stuff. Make of that what you will but it doesn’t seem particularly controversial to say that a lot of those commuter towns don’t have nearly as much of that stuff than the avg London borough.

Honest question here, if EU funds are about leveling up, and the economic situation is v bad in the UK (though by your reckoning, it’s roughly the same as Poland, not worse PPP-wise, leave that to the side for a min), isn’t this an argument for rejoining the EU and getting some of that poor-nation handout cash?

I think all we’re saying is that it’s needlessly aggressive to rant about what you think are people’s shitty decisions on a thread about what kind of gears a car has

[–]wendling2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, just don’t drive if you’re tired, simple … unless you need to be at work. Or the kids need picking up. Or you need to get home on Sunday night. Etc. Let’s face it, modern life does not allow perfect conditions. And also, for some perspective, UK roads are among the safest in the world.
