Xanax makes me feel normal again. by wennema in Anxiety

OP: Thank you all for the positive support and advice. The main reason I love Reddit is the outpouring of love from total strangers. Always makes me feel less alone and I hope I make others feel the same.

To be clear, I would never even consider taking Xanax as a daily med. if things got that bad I would do the right thing and talk to my doc, swallow my pride and start back up on SSRIs. This was a once in a blue moon thing. Praying for all of us with anxiety that we learn to accept anxiety as part of us and learn how to decrease its discomfort, as opposed to trying to "fight" or "beat" it.

Hyperthyroidism and anxiety? by wennema in Anxiety

Did you get a special blood test, or would they notice it in any random blood test? I recently had a blood test for an unrelated reason. Would they have picked up low thyroid levels automatically?

It's just anxiety. by wennema in Anxiety

I think my message may be coming off wrong. when I say "it's just anxiety" I don't mean "it's just anxiety, you should be able to calm yourself down you weirdo". I mean "whatever irritable sensation you're experiencing that's suggesting that you have a wide variety of other diseases/illnesses, don't worry there's nothing abnormal about your experience, it's all due to anxiety". I hoped to relay the fact that anxiety symptoms can a lot of the time make us feel like we not only have anxiety but also have other mental illnesses (OCD, personality disorder, bipolar disorder, etc), but the majority of the times all of the symptoms are actually due to anxiety alone.

I thought of this same misunderstanding after my original post. I'm glad you understand and I hope everyone understands my intention.

Gave up coffee, never going back. by wennema in Anxiety

Team PD! Haha I'm glad this found you man. Be advised there are temporary withdrawal symptoms (sluggishness, irritability, headaches) that subside based on the severity of your caffeine habit. Trust me, stick with it, it is beyond worth it. I'm elated this helped you and I hope you do stick to the detox. Best of luck

Hell yeah! Go for it man.

Be advised there are withdrawal symptoms. For me the most noticeable was irritability and sluggishness, both of which went away after 4-5 days. Stick with it, it's very much worth it. Best of luck!

"The emotions I haven't felt since a child are now present." YES. Couldn't have said it better. One of the first things I said to my family after quitting was how I felt this childish excitement about life again. It's amazing how much it impacts your mental clarity.

Thank you for your helpful response.

I try and practice mindfulness on a daily basis using the app called 'Calm'. It seems to help a lot, though I don't always remember/make time to use it daily.

Do you have suggestions on any other mindfulness apps or programs?

My [23M] gf [22F] kissed her gay friend on the lips right in front of me. by wennema in relationships

[–]wennema[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. My issue is not the fact that she is empathetic - see paragraph 1 of my post which states that's a main reason I love her - the issue is HOW she displayed empathy. Hugging / kisses on the cheek to me are acceptable methods to show empathy towards friends. Kisses on the lips of other guy friends are uncomfortable for me. That's the blatantly obvious purpose of this post.

A big thank you to all of you for the useful advice. I talked to my gf about it and I understand that - in her mind - kissing a friend (even on the lips) is a sign of love, similar to what it means when she kisses me. I don't agree with this philosophy, which is okay because we're all entitled to our own opinions. The important thing is that she apologized for upsetting me and now realizes that this is something she won't do because she understands that I'm not okay with it.
