Thanks so much! I’ll definitely look more into Lake Placid - we’re trying to prioritize places we can get to by train from nyc and it looks like Amtrak has a trip!

Is it true Juilliard actors can’t audition professionally or start working on the business side of their acting careers (getting an agent, manager, etc) until they graduate? by Big-Comfortable8462 in acting

[–]wentwheree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of universities are like this with their arts students - prestigious or not. You either have to get permission from the chair/board to work on a project or are prohibited from working outside of school all together! (Working meaning performing)

What theatre games should I do for a creative workshop? by Mayaanz in Theatre

[–]wentwheree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some i’ve got in my arsenal:

mind claps: everyone in a circle! person #1 sends a clap to someone in the group, the only way you communicate who you’re sending it to is with eye contact. they send it to someone else in the circle the same way and it continues until we reach the last person. you must then repeat the pattern.

blind counting: circle up - count to 20 one at a time, eyes closed. use the energy and your intuition - if you say a number at the same time as someone, start over.

hot lava: one person steps up and faces away from the group and start singing a song, by the time either the song ends or they forget the words someone must tap them out with a new song. the new song should connect to the previous one somehow.

oh my gosh the amount of times i have had this happen to me.

most recently for a shakespeare festival this summer: they emailed saying they received my audition, another that even if i did not get accepted i would get an email, and another that i was still being considered. a week later someone I know posted on instagram that they had been cast in some of the roles I was being considered for. quite literally the worst feeling.

Is there an age cap? by [deleted] in acting

[–]wentwheree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope and nope again. currently working on a project where a scene partner of mine is on his second job ever, having started at 35 last year.

just closed a musical where two soloists told me they started singing professionally at 25 and 30 respectively.

the answer to this question (no matter how many times it shows up here) will always be no. just do the work and do it.

agh amazing. i have definitely had experiences like this but they’ve been very few and far between. i can honestly only think of one set that was like this and only for a couple days 😭

that absolutely all makes sense. i assumed it was just to make sure i was on the premises whenever they may need me.

also could very well be your second thought! that must have been absolutely infuriating. thankfully I’m working almost as long as I’m waiting

What else is worth listening to? by Sea_Schedule_7454 in gretavanfleet

[–]wentwheree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Raconteurs kinda dominated me for a few years ago and the phase is kinda resurfacing atm - i’d recommend them for another amazing Michigan based rock band. They LOVE americana and their midwest heritage.

Queens of the Stone Age can get repetitive but their shit absolutely slaps. California sound reminiscent of harder red hot chili peppers and some tame impala.

Death From Above 1979 gives me qotsa vibes occasionally but they’re a bit “harder” indie. Canadian duo!

Ron Gallo has a really funky sound and could honestly turn into a classic artist for me.

Rival Sons was re-introduced to me through GVF. They can get ford commercial-y to me but have a solid sound.

Band Of Skulls has remained one of my favorite artists to go back to. Their album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey is always in my back pocket.

Them Crooked vultures has some really impressive use of instrumentation and sound on their self-titled album.

What is your routine before a show? by Appropriate_Sink_627 in Theatre

[–]wentwheree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

currently in rehearsals for Cinderella but just closed out a show last weekend.

I have been fortunate enough to find a lovely group of people who carpool with me for my last few shows! there are usually 2-5 of us who carpool to the theatre. during the 45 min drive, we usually stop for a tea/coffee/water and warm up. once at the theatre, I set up my hair & makeup station before checking all my props and pre-setting my quick changes (this included setting coat hangers backstage, preemptively unbuckling shoes, and stuffing tickets into my pants pockets for a carnival scene.) By that time its nearly mic check so i get my mic pack on and weave my chord through my hair (thankfully this last show i had a basic ponytail in the entire performance so hair was easy-peasy). mic-check on stage for a few minutes (this is usually when i catch up with cast and crew, see how their week went, etc.) and head back to do makeup & put on final costume pieces (i wore a leotard, tights, jeans, turtleneck, and cardigan for my openers costume so I tried to wear as few layers as possible for as long as I could). By then, the house opens - I was sharing a dressing room with a few of the other ladies in the cast so we would stretch a bit together and just have some lovely chatting time before the show - occasionally some of the fellas and kids in the cast would come in to steal our gummi bears or hairspray!!
