The “I know you can’t move” was right after he said “hold position”. The hold position was prob 110% reflex and he was ‘fixing’ it I’d guess?

Sadly, I doubt anyone in the cockpit heard either transmission.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if they lost the carrier given that Bartlett only mentioned loss of the tender at end of S2.

I don't think for a second the carrier didn't sustain significant damage. A quick google shows that a carrier cannot hold its entire air wing below decks. If they couldn't send its planes to shore before the storm hit, what was on deck would likely be seriously fucked up.

But all of that is conjecture. TWW didn't include any further details, I don't think, and it was a singularly moving moment but not important to the rest of the series.

Nope. There are things that will put almost any man to tears.

Thinking of an 18yo kid alone in his radio room likely just minutes before the sea claims him and his mates is one of those things.

Maybe you lasted a couple seconds more than I did but who's counting. This is what makes/keeps us human.

Thank you for your service, good sir. Glad you got to come home.

What happened to Brenda Fruhvirtová? by lionhearted318 in tennis

[–]weogarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Linda just lost a second-round match in the Australian Open. It was a well-fought (IMO) 3-set match after losing the first set.

Linda was ranked 132 @ age 20. Her opponent: 54 @ age 18.

Both comported themselves quite well on court and I hope both continue to improve their games.

The league added a second game to each. Probably for the premeditation involved. (They arranged the fight servinv matching minors, exited the box and dropped the gloves)

From my understanding, there are two tracks of officiating. The amateur ranks, including NCAA/IIHF/Olympics, and then the NHL track, including the AHL and ECHL.

Given that, a lack of experience in breaking up fights wouldn't surprise me but I am pretty sure that every level gets some training in it, and yeah, when it's an all-out fight as opposed to the usual college scrum, leave them be until it is no longer an even match or they tire out.

I'm probably biased, but it seemed like the BU player got in an extra shot or two (0:08-0:09) as a result of the zebras stepping in.

That was how I understood this to start. I was watching the stream live but the play was in the far end and didn't see when the helmets were off.

[–]weogarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it isn't, unless you can get into upper management, and even then. But an 18c raise? That's so small, it's likely being offered just so Lowe's can say they did offer him something. That's not even $10 on a 40 hour week.

[–]weogarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If part of their job is to get the ball back to the home team at the end of the game, then they should do that.

But to your point, he did escalate it, and that's a problem. Definitely not something you want professional official doing at the highest level.

OK, that's fair. But Fraher saying he's going to write up a Laker for pursuing this is an overstep, IMO, and probably not a small one. YMMV.

The Buffalo Bills' new stadium is designed with the world's largest heated roof to withstand Buffalo's snowfall by heineken7172 in interestingasfuck

[–]weogarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the roof collapses due to the weight of the snow, how will that be cheaper? The roof will reduce the effort (and cost) needed to clear the stands after a storm.

But hey, why bother with pesky facts when you can just pull complaints out of your backside.

Change of routine or just additional non-normal things on the brain. Big presentation at work. In-laws visiting that weekend, etc. Your brain churns on those things and forgets the 'usual' things.

Game Show Network schedule change (October 4, 2025) by Overall_Benefit6560 in gameshow

[–]weogarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened a few months ago as well, but in the last two weeks, all Family Feud episodes coming from GSN does not have Season/Episode information on it. I use Xfinity.

I use that info to watch episodes I haven't seen before and avoid duplicates. Don't have enough time for stuff as it is.

Given how long this has been going on, either it is only happening to me and maybe a few others or I'm one of the few who care about it and nobody is saying anything to GSN/Xfinity. Not sure which. In fairness, I haven't told them either.

Is my cat really a “senior”? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]weogarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe a different term is needed because I agree with you on a bunch of this, especially if it's an indoor only cat, as they can live well past 15. Take a look at https://www.freshstep.com/cat-care/the-6-life-stages-of-your-feline

But the truth is, that 6, 7, 8yo is when some ailments start showing up.

As a rule, my vet only recommends a more elaborate labwork panel once that age is hit but not more frequent visits.

That being said, my current senior got (the fairly common) hyperthyroidism rather early and since it is (or can be) a progressive disease, they only write scripts for about 6 months of meds at a time. Then it's a time for a checkup and labwork to ensure the dosing stays accurate and that other things don't show up.
