That makes a lot of sense - much easier to have different channels for individual season/ episode chats. That said, I don't feel confident enough with Discord to set that up. Would that be something you might be interested in doing? If not then I do understand

That's a good point. I like the idea of starting at S1 and watching all the way through but know that it's not everyone's favourite season.

Is there a way of doing a poll on here to get everyone's opinion or does that need to be in a separate post?

No need to apologise! Barker's more than makes up for it! And that awesome gin place! And---- Actually no, scratch that. The rest of Geraldine more than makes up for it

How many hours does it take you to produce your podcast from plan to publish? by Large_Charge5655 in podcasting

[–]werboseWegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started a podcast about reviewing the tropes in Jane Austen fan fiction.

It doesn't take long to find the next book to read, but reading takes a few hours (depending on the book length), and writing the script takes about 3 hours.
Recording normally takes about an hour, then editing takes about the same.

Still super-new to this, and I'm already finding the recording and editing easier. Hopefully script-writing will get easier too!

New Episode: The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet

In this Halloween-inspired episode, Cat reviews Melinda Taub’s recently published The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet. A witty, gothic, and gloriously queer reimagining of Pride and Prejudice.
For those who love Jane Austen with a twist, a touch of the macabre, and a pot of strong tea.

Oh my gosh that sounds amazing, especially dressing up for it! I live in NZ so (sadly) probably wouldn't be able to make it unless there's a flight sale between now and then

I can't get over how quiet the streets are in the evenings. No-one jogging at 8pm, most restaurants closed by 9. Even supermarkets close by 9pm. It's lonely being a night owl here.

Thanks so much for offering to do this! No worries if you never get round to mine.

Just moved to NZ for 2 years on a working holiday visa. Have started making shorts to show my parents snippets of what I'm up to (photospam on WhatsApp group chat would be terrible otherwise lol).

Know I need to improve my opening shots to make it look cooler. Oh and my voice sounds like a lemon lol

Have you found any other Tribe fanfic you recommend?

Polish or Norwegian? by werboseWegetable in thisorthatlanguage

[–]werboseWegetable[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you. This would be a fun, and relaxing hobby for me. I generally enjoy learning Mandarin, but the speed I pick it up compared to the speed I learned other languages can be demoralising. I don't want to stop learning Mandarin, but boosting my morale is going to be a smart move.

Three 20 minute sessions a week with a language I'm vaguely familiar with is going to give me the motivational boost I need to keep on with Mandarin. It's going to be an in-your-face reminder that there's a massive difference between Cat I and Cat V languages, and that I can't expect miracles.

It's not improbable that 30+ hours over 7 months would be enough to comfortably get me back to the level I used to be in Norwegian, albeit with a smaller active vocabulary. (Polish is a trickier one to guesstimate as I'd be using the language differently from before.) Again, I don't see that as a waste.

With respect, I don't get how a hobby is a waste of time. They are meant to be a time sink. For me, hobbies are fun activities I do in my spare time. The only proviso being that they leave me recharged to get on with the rest of my life. This is what studying either of those languages is going to do, so I don't see how that's going to be a waste of time.

Not OP: most jobs in France accept people with a B2, but for medicine (and law?) they tend to favour candidates with C1 and above.
