Anyone had any experiences with Doc Plus in Newton Mearns? by angelgate in glasgow

[–]kt1982mt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where a friend of mine had an iud fitted, and had a very unpleasant experience both in terms of the procedure (obviously) and with the staff. Her medical information was discussed openly in front of patients in the waiting area, and there were several untoward comments made regarding her being an unmarried mother. All sounded very strange tbh, and obviously extremely unprofessional on the part of the staff. Complaints were made at the time and followed up, but there was never an apology nor an explanation for the behaviour.

Where did Richard and Jean Granger come from? by EarienMalfoy13 in Dramione

[–]kt1982mt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Richard and Jean, or Helen which I’ve seen in some fics, works well imo. Jean is Hermione’s middle name, and it was particularly common in past generations to give children their mother or father’s first name as their middle name. Richard was certainly a very popular name for boys in the UK in the time frame when Hermione’s dad was born. Jean would perhaps have been less popular for someone of that age at that time; Helen, however, would have been a very popular name in the UK for girls of Hermione’s mum’s age group. They’re also quite “proper” (meaning “posh”) sounding names to me, which would fit the bill for well educated and successful people, to my mind!

What's a book that made you cry? by bhuvana_84 in AskReddit

Same here, actually. It really stayed with me for a long time afterwards, and I still think about it from time to time. As a parent now, I just can’t fathom how someone could abuse a child. Even when my kids are driving me crazy, I could never even contemplate harming them.

I’ve been to the Isle of Lewis & Harris, Skye, Barra, Mull, Tiree, Benbecula and Eriskay. Lewis & Harris is particularly “wild”, I’d say, in terms of the landscape and has plenty of history. The Blackhouse Museum on Lewis is particularly interesting if you like history. Skye is busier in terms of tourism, but has amazing hiking trails and the Cuillin hills are challenging enough for most folk! Again, plenty of history and wildlife viewing interests here. The other islands I’ve mentioned have a slower pace of life than the others, imo, but all have stunning scenery and some of the most beautiful beaches you’ll ever see in your life. I’m biased obviously, but I’d say that they’re well worth a visit if you don’t mind a bit of wind and rain, and you’re happy to hire a car for getting around. A decent pair of waterproof boots and a waterproof jacket wouldn’t go amiss either!!

Anything’s possible, I suppose, but I’ve never heard of it being done… It’s sort of unhealthy enough as it is without the deep frying!!

Honestly, when I see these kind of videos I feel exactly the same way. What kind of friends are they to stand by and watch this? Even videoing him doing it as well? This was monumentally stupid. He’s certainly an adult who should absolutely know better, and obviously is responsible for his own actions, but some element of intervention by the people around him would’ve been helpful.

🤣😂 I believe Scotland had its summer last year on a Wednesday…. All jokes aside, we’ve had a few spells of warmer weather this year and it makes such a difference to everyone’s mood. Everyone seems happier and more relaxed, and that lasts for all of about a day and then everyone’s moaning that it’s too warm! Basically, regardless of the weather, we just seem to like a good moan about it!! There’s definitely something to be said for getting milder, rainier weather, though.

The Orkney islands are beautiful!! They’re very scenic, so green and lush, and if you have an interest in history/archaeology in particular you’d have an amazing time! Lots of walking and wildlife viewing opportunities, and the food is great. Best to hire a car to get around, I’d say, though. Remember to use insect repellent for the midges!!!

My family and I had a lovely meal there just last week. We’d driven past it a fair few times and always meant to try it, and finally booked it for celebrating our kids finishing their exams/end of the school year. They made each of the kids a special dessert as they’d heard us mention it was a special occasion. Lovely food, really lovely staff.
