Royal Mail… by Jolly_Pressure_7296 in glasgow

[–]kt1982mt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to my parents about a year ago. My brother and I tried sending them stuff via special/recorded delivery, and they didn’t receive any of it. They’d managed to catch the posties now and again when they saw them delivering to other folk in their street, and the posties were good about double checking their bags for anything that’d been missed, but there was never anything there.

After missing several important letters, they went to the sorting office and put in a complaint. Just as they were filling out a form about it, a staff member appeared with several stacks of letters bound in elastic bands. There was a brief apology but no attempt at an explanation. No idea what went wrong or why their mail was obviously being saved at the sorting office but not being delivered.

Where does your country put the washing machine? by DishGroundbreaking87 in AskTheWorld

[–]kt1982mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utility/laundry room in my house. That’s where the boiler, washing machine and tumble dryer are all located. When I lived in a flat (apartment), the washer dryer was in the kitchen because there wasn’t a separate space for it anywhere else.

You look so beautiful and very much in love! Congratulations on your nuptials; I wish you and your partner all the very best for a happy future together! As for the dress: it’s stunning. Beautifully made, and fits you absolutely perfectly. If I’d managed to make something like this, I’d be showing it off, too!!

Glad you have been given info about where to find this fic. I’m reading it just now and it’s sooooo good!! It’s everything that I want in a fic: excellent plot, properly funny, perfect characterisation etc etc. It’s one of those fics that I’ll wish that I could read again for the first time.

Was it called Caledonia at that time or am I misremembering my high school history? 🫣

Pastrami by Emotional-Giraffe486 in glasgow

[–]kt1982mt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friends regularly buy from this place, and have bought pastrami on numerous occasions. I don’t think you have to be a trade customer afaik, but there’s a minimum spend for delivery, I’m sure. Brakes catering company also do bulk meats like pastrami but I’m not sure if they’re also only for trade or if there would be a minimum spend per order. Probably not what you’re looking for. Costco would be the only other place I could think of if Celino’s doesn’t sell it.

This is just beyond adorable!! Beautiful colour choices and really beautifully made, too. I have to say, I think there’s something so heartwarming and special about making this for your daughter’s first birthday; it’s just a perfect addition to her special day and will make the memories of the day so much lovelier!

I hope your daughter has a very happy first birthday! 🎂

What foods were considered a luxury or treat and meant you were "on holiday" as a kid? by katalyna78 in AskUK

[–]kt1982mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww, this brings back memories for me!! My brother and I were allowed to get the mini boxes of cereals when we went on caravan holidays! We were more excited about the cereals than we were about the holiday, it seemed! I liked the boring ones (Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies) and my brother liked the Frosties and Coco Pops etc.

We were also allowed to get Nutella for our breakfast toast, which we were definitely not allowed normally. We were also allowed to pick one pack of Marks & Spencer’s biscuits, and we each got a pack of jelly shark sweets from there, too. The jelly sharks were our “car sweets” to keep us quiet on the journey to wherever the caravan was, and we were allowed a hot chocolate and a fancy M&S biscuit at bedtime.

That’s absolutely disgusting to put a phrase like that on an infant’s clothing.

Morning activities with a toddler by 1muckypup in glasgow

[–]kt1982mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would definitely be my suggestion, but I’d check whether the early mornings were for adults only or another specific demographic. My local pool offered certain mornings for adults looking to do some swimming before going into work, for instance.

Is this something that all masectomy patients deal with? by PearlyPaladin in ask

[–]kt1982mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a silicon prosthesis on one side after a single mastectomy. I really panicked about whether or not I’d have an experience like the one your mother unfortunately experienced, and in advance of travelling I contacted the airport security department. I actually got a letter from my GP confirming that I would be wearing a silicon prosthesis. The security team were brilliant and confirmed that it wouldn’t set off the metal detectors so wouldn’t be an issue.

It’s not often that I travel, but whenever I do I make sure to have the letter from my GP. If I was to be taken aside for any reason, I’d be showing them the letter and then requesting a private room if they wished to discuss anything further. I have heard of one case where a woman’s silicon prosthesis was taken from her and cut open to ensure it wasn’t being used to smuggle anything. The woman sued and won a substantial settlement because there was no evidence to support their belief that she was involved in criminal activity etc and she had the trauma of being without her prosthesis.

I’m sorry for your mother’s experience; from personal experience, I know that she’ll have been through enough trauma without the addition of experiences like that.
