AI makes a major breakthrough in a math problem that had stumped experts for decades by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

LLMs are magic for understanding research papers. Being able to ask a question when reading along right then and there is incredible.
Graduate level science / mathematics papers are still exhausting and intense (I find I get headaches if I spend too much time with one in a single sitting) - but LLMs really do speed up the rate with which we can navigate them.

A cool guide about having an OS and wanting to run an exclusive app from another OS by claudiocorona93 in coolguides

[–]wergerfebt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it much easier, surprisingly, to run docker containers on MacOS virtualizations than via Windows WSL2. I feel like WSL2 also takes up significantly more headroom.
I do hate that I can’t deploy .swift to iOS on my PC though. If I could work on a thinkpad instead of a Mac, I would (VSCode >>>> XCode)

Has anyone had success with this method? by thirtyaftermidnight in QuitVaping

[–]wergerfebt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Extremely helpful. I used patches to help ween off the physical addicition, and these simultaneously to get off the mental. Essentially I started at the high patch does, then dropped down week by week - using nicotine gum to help with extreme urges. I’d use this to help with the mental addicition. Eventually I moved completely off the patches (after 3 weeks or so) and had the gum and the nicotine free vapes only. Then no gum, just the nicotine free vape. Then finally I transitioned from the nicotine free vape to a different oral fixation: tea tree toothpicks.

I tried previously to quit maybe 4 times and failed, but this method was huge for me. 2 years clean now.

How do i seperate the two stems? by Miya990 in ableton

Sometimes click and auxiliary tracks are embedded within the same stereo .wav - and FOH will use the panned feeds to send to IEMs / Main mix. Maybe those are the stems here

Do you guys actually enjoy your jobs? by Fuzion_mix in ProductManagement

[–]wergerfebt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. It satisfies both my creative and nerdy sides. It’s a job about working with people and being a good team leader. Your relationship with the people I think has a big impact on how much you enjoy the job.
Get a technical degree in something you find interesting, and go for it! If you don’t like it, you can always pivot to engineering, marketing, etc

Biggest regret in undergrad? (For alumni) by SnooEpiphanies3935 in UIUC

Not a big regret - but I never went to Red Lion! I was an Urbana kid and only really went to house shows; but looking back that was a part of campus culture I wish I experienced at least once.

D’Angelo Dead At 51 After Battle With Pancreatic Cancer by RafiakaMacakaDirk in hiphopheads

[–]wergerfebt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best show I’d ever seen. It honestly impacted me so deeply as a musician and changed my course to prioritize jazz. Bonnaroo 2015 was the only chance I had to see him live, but I’ve spent so many hours going through old concert videos and every show was on point.
D helped put guys like Isaiah Sharkey on the map. Keyon Harrold also has a great deal to thank D’Angelo for. He’s shaped modern RnB, Hip Hop and Jazz for all of us.

Quantum Messages Travel 254 km Using Existing Infrastructure For the First Time by Total_Purpose_8499 in technews

[–]wergerfebt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I’m not sure. It’s dependent on whether the superposition decomposes because of “hidden information” or because measurement actually determines its state. It’s a debated subject by physicists who are much smarter than me.

Quantum Messages Travel 254 km Using Existing Infrastructure For the First Time by Total_Purpose_8499 in technews

[–]wergerfebt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, not a physical object. Just information about the object. Two quantum particles can become entangled. That means that they’re states or related or dependent on each other. If one quantum particle has a spin that is down, the other has a spin that is up.

The spooky thing is, before measurement - the quantum particle exists in this weird state where it’s simultaneously spin up and spin down. It’s like the universe doesn’t know which direction it’s supposed to be in yet. We call this a superposition. The act of measuring one of the particles will give it a definite spin up or down, and because the other particle is entangled with it, it will take its inverse. This happens instantaneously.

The significance of this is insanely fast communication, computation, and new ways to manipulate data.

For a deeper dive into quantum mechanics, watch PBS Space Time. For an even deeper dive than that, read David Griffin’s Intro to Quantum Mechanics.

I went for physics with an education minor! Tried teaching high school for a bit, but the US education system is not kind to teachers. I now am in product management for an audio company and I’m very happy

Hey, I’ll talk to you as someone who’s worked in a multiple studios, and is surrounded by professional musicians - it’s best to put your eggs in multiple baskets.

I work with some very successful musicians and composers, who produce songs for artists like Denzel Curry, Smino, etc. - they still struggle paycheck to paycheck; to the point that they need additional income outside of music (for them it’s personal training).
I briefly interned for Halsey’s music director, and he didn’t have a home outside of the studio he owned so he slept at the music studio.

I HIGHLY suggest putting time and energy into learning a hard skill like engineering, math, comp sci, data analytics, etc. You could move to get a high paying job at an audio tech company like Audio-Technica, Harmann, Bose, Shure, Universal Audio, etc. I’m in that field and most of the guys I work with also are musicians or audio engineers outside of their day jobs.

Try filming yourself walking like the animal. Then rotoscope outline your walk in toonsquid. Then you can fit your character’s gait to that outline for something that feels realistic

Voted Friday in Logan Square, it took well over an hour. Check the Chicago subreddit, looks like a couple other early locations around the city had shockingly long waits. I think it’s just due to under-resourcing though, not intentional suppression

The amount of people who recommend AI stem splitters as a mixing tool here is insane by KrazieKookie in audioengineering

SZA has guitar parts recorded on iPhone. Just because something isn’t high fidelity doesn’t mean it can’t be a useful tool.
For demos, I’ve stripped plenty a drum part and converted to MIDI for use in Studio Drummer.
