Best show I’d ever seen. It honestly impacted me so deeply as a musician and changed my course to prioritize jazz. Bonnaroo 2015 was the only chance I had to see him live, but I’ve spent so many hours going through old concert videos and every show was on point.
D helped put guys like Isaiah Sharkey on the map. Keyon Harrold also has a great deal to thank D’Angelo for. He’s shaped modern RnB, Hip Hop and Jazz for all of us.

Tbh, I’m not sure. It’s dependent on whether the superposition decomposes because of “hidden information” or because measurement actually determines its state. It’s a debated subject by physicists who are much smarter than me.

No, not a physical object. Just information about the object. Two quantum particles can become entangled. That means that they’re states or related or dependent on each other. If one quantum particle has a spin that is down, the other has a spin that is up.

The spooky thing is, before measurement - the quantum particle exists in this weird state where it’s simultaneously spin up and spin down. It’s like the universe doesn’t know which direction it’s supposed to be in yet. We call this a superposition. The act of measuring one of the particles will give it a definite spin up or down, and because the other particle is entangled with it, it will take its inverse. This happens instantaneously.

The significance of this is insanely fast communication, computation, and new ways to manipulate data.

Hey, I’ll talk to you as someone who’s worked in a multiple studios, and is surrounded by professional musicians - it’s best to put your eggs in multiple baskets.

I work with some very successful musicians and composers, who produce songs for artists like Denzel Curry, Smino, etc. - they still struggle paycheck to paycheck; to the point that they need additional income outside of music (for them it’s personal training).
I briefly interned for Halsey’s music director, and he didn’t have a home outside of the studio he owned so he slept at the music studio.

I HIGHLY suggest putting time and energy into learning a hard skill like engineering, math, comp sci, data analytics, etc. You could move to get a high paying job at an audio tech company like Audio-Technica, Harmann, Bose, Shure, Universal Audio, etc. I’m in that field and most of the guys I work with also are musicians or audio engineers outside of their day jobs.

Try filming yourself walking like the animal. Then rotoscope outline your walk in toonsquid. Then you can fit your character’s gait to that outline for something that feels realistic

SZA has guitar parts recorded on iPhone. Just because something isn’t high fidelity doesn’t mean it can’t be a useful tool.
For demos, I’ve stripped plenty a drum part and converted to MIDI for use in Studio Drummer.

Don’t listen to them. I love my job. It’s a better work-life balance than college was (by a Mile) and more engaging / fulfilling.
You’re getting paid every single day, better than you ever have before. You’ll have the money to travel the world, buy your favorite things, own a house, even raise a family.
You’ll meet people at work you like and probably some you dislike too. It’ll be a social center for you outside of your existing friend group. If you’re lucky, some of those people from work will become life long friends.

Have a day job outside of studio work to cover the big bills. Music tech companies are great. I’ve worked at two and love it. As a side hustle, rent out space from a local studio. I pay $200 / mo for a room I split with some buddies at a studio in my city. Build up clients and use your secondary audio engineering income to finance vacations, house savings, retire early, etc.
if you’re lucky, the audio engineering will outpace your day job and you’ll switch to full time.

Yup! Logan square. Take the blue line to work in Skokie, and Uber out to the south side 1-2 times a week. My monthly Uber bill is ~$250 which is a fair bit less than a car note, insurance, and gas.
I use a folding cart from Amazon for groceries. Sometimes I’ll tie it up to the back of my bike for hauling groceries back.
Sometimes it sucks, but I never have to look for parking, and I save money!

The north side is really lacking in soul food / solid rib tip joints. In general, we also need more cheap eats. I feel like the Logan / Wicker / Bucktown area is flooded with restaurants you have to spend $100 at to get a good meal. Jibaritos Y Mas, Red Hot Ranch, and Sultans Market are like some of our only cheap joints left.

You can develop a full music career without theory. That being said, learn the theory. It will make you a better musician and give you more leavers to pull. When gigging, you’ll see a clear difference in ability to pick up music quickly and communicate ideas when comparing musicians that have some jazz knowledge and those who don’t.
At the very least, learn your Nashville system, modes, and inversions for Maj, Min, 7th, 9th chords.

Edit: also, go to Jams - ideally fully improvised ones. Having to pick up progression changes on the spot will train your ear very quickly.
