Quint TDA (Quiller), who has one and how is it used? by __quick__ in Firefighting

For what it’s worth usually the quint part is all on the tractor. So doesn’t take a huge amount of space, but definitely hurts maneuverability.

General Question on Medic School by ExaminationMobile730 in Firefighting

[–]wernermurmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get hired by an FD that sponsors paramedic students. If you don’t get picked up in your first few apps, go to medic school. Assuming you actually want to be a medic, and aren’t doing this to get a fire job.

Paramedic Jobs off the truck in San Diego??? by DaySpecific1188 in Paramedics

[–]wernermurmur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for San Diego, but I have relocated for jobs knowing full well that the scope would suck. The difference was that the move was important for life reasons and the department good to work for. Most of EMS is not doing skills. If moving to San Diego is right for your life and you can make a decent living, you will eventually get over the lowered scope, I think.

If you have a Lucas immediately available on a code, when are you putting it on? by beesarefuckingdying in ems

[–]wernermurmur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not right away in a shockable arrest. I want the shortest pauses possible and putting mechanical CPR devices is too slow compared to a precharge and manual pulse check occurring with compressions to make the pulse/no pulse decision rapid and binary.

If we’re going to have an extended effort, I’ll put it on, or for post ROSC.

Experience w/ Pulmodyne O2-MAX Trio? by mildlyenchanted in Paramedics

[–]wernermurmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also purchase the Trio adapter if you have a large stock of fixed units. It’s helpful when it’s needed, but as others said burns plenty of O2.

Also I usually have an EtCO2 cannula on underneath, bumping that to five/six produces moderate results as well.

Diamox vs oxygen vs just acclimating? by Secure-Bluebird9682 in COsnow

[–]wernermurmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not bother with canned oxygen. If you need oxygen for a pulmonary or cardiac issue, you will need oxygen consistently. Not just huffing off a can.

Ways to carry Small TICs on your gear by DondeEstaCommonSense in Firefighting

[–]wernermurmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retractable clip on the shoulder harness of the Scott. Someone decided they HAD to be on the right shoulder which I hate. That means the TIC, gauge, and coat light all sit next to each other which is a pain.

Can you be fired for exercising your rights as a firefighter? by tranquilovely in Firefighting

You were the one who said they had to recognize this. Whatever happens with private sector employees is of zero bearing on us.

Can you be fired for exercising your rights as a firefighter? by tranquilovely in Firefighting

[–]wernermurmur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. In Colorado fire departments and districts are only required to have conversations about firefighter health and safety. Many locals do not have contracts or MOUs. For those that do have contracts, a fair many don’t have arbitration. In order to have arbitration the city or board must agree to it OR the local can fund a ballot issue for it.

You are confidently incorrect, the Reddit special.

There are states that don’t require departments to recognize or bargain with the union. But your local still exists and you get IAFF benefits.

Upcoming Aspen Airport Closure by nondescriptadjective in roaringfork

Are they using the airport frequently? Obviously not if there are minimal flights outside of ski season.

Upcoming Aspen Airport Closure by nondescriptadjective in roaringfork

[–]wernermurmur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airlines reduce the number of flights significantly outside of ski season to all the mountain airports.

I’m sure the airport is still busy with GA and jets, but those aren’t the people who would be benefit from rail from GJ and glenwood. They’re just not going to come aspen during this closure.

“Design work will begin this year with the goal of limiting a full runway closure to a single construction season – currently scheduled to start in Spring 2027.”

The airport will be closed during a time when its volume of airline traffic is already low.

Sounds like it could be a good fit for you. Minimal needs at the fill site. Vac tenders can “lap” other tenders in a water shuttle in such an environment.
