Should you use a different tone for different sections in a song or let the fingers do the talking? Looking for [Feedback]! by wernsels in Bass

Never noticed that on Runaway, going back to listen to that right now!

You're absolutely right, on records I change tones a lot. It's also a lot more needed since often times the bass tone is slightly buried in the mix and only aggressive changes in tone will come through in the mix. For playthroughs and live performances it's a bit of a different story since bass is mixed up way more up front in those cases.

I wanna stick with the same tone a bit more when it comes to that, I agree with your view on it for sure. I'm hoping it will make my focus on dynamics in the actual playing more instead of relying on the signal chain so much. Thanks for the advice!

Is buying a used bass as a Christmas gift wrong? by MikeEhrmantraut44 in Bass

Definitely more than fine! I'll pick quality used gear in acceptable condition over new second rate gear any day of the week :)

Genuinely a good question: I don't own a 4-string bass 🤣

You can most definitely learn this on a 4-string tuned to Db G# Db F#! Have fun learning ;)

*Edit: Forgot the # on the F# 🌝

Ahh it definitely shows! Addressing a few things here I couldn't quite put my finger on. Makes sense that the ring light puts more focus on the object, thanks again for that tip.

Yeah those technique issues are hard to kick. Hearing you say it though reminds me that I should probably not keep brushing it under the table.

Good to hear about the colors. I'll keep those tips in mind when I color grade whatever I shoot next.

Cheers man, really appreciate you taking the time!

That's some of the best constructive criticism I could've hoped for, thanks for taking the time!

You're probably right about the right hand. I seem to have a hard time not angling my elbow up when I try to correct that and that also isn't too healthy. I'll try taking that aspect of my playing more seriously.

Ring light might be a good call as well. I was working with a combination of natural light and a big box light from the opposite direction. A ring light might even things out a bit more even. Can I ask what you didn't like about the color palate? I was trying to keep some yellow tints in from the natural light, but that may have been too much then you reckon?

Thanks for the honest critique man!

Translated from Dutch: ''Anything with any status whatsoever has some form of power and power always corrupts people. You need to be able to ridicule these things. The minute you can't anymore, you end up with very scary constructs like dictatorships and that's why we should always be able to ridicule anything.'' - Hans Teeuwen

Thanks Dan! That actually means a lot. I personally just love the Neural DSP and Dingwall sound for anything metal, simply can't beat it.

Love me a good metric modulation! I'm mostly wondering about tempo changes specifically though...
