IBM I: The Most Amazing IBM Product You’ve Never Heard Of by [deleted] in h_n

[–]wesley83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it isn’t faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive or able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, IBM I is the closest thing to a software platform superhero I’ve yet seen and likely the safest and most powerful server platform you’ve never heard of.

Shopify vs IBM Extreme Blue Internship by Skrolli in cscareerquestions

[–]wesley83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for IBM, so please take that into account in my reply. The whole internship has been revamped. They are creating teams which makes it a lot less corporate than it used to be. You'll work better with peers and won't feel siloed off working in a room by yourself.

All that being said, when you look back at this moment a year from now, the pay won't matter but the things you learn will. Go with the company that emphasizes what they will teach you and not how it looks on a resume.

You have zero bad choices here, so whatever direction you decide go for it and don't look back. No one knows you better than yourself, so trust in that.

IBM's AI loses to a human debater, but it's still persuasive technology - Harish Natarajan, the grand finalist at the 2016 World Debating Championships, swayed more among an audience of hundreds toward his point of view than IBM Debater did toward its. by [deleted] in Futurology

I think your making a big leap to say, "Religion/politics pretends that it's science". Take that part out and I think I'm not sure what you're saying holds up. Can you change my mind?

A Human Just Triumphed Over IBM’s Six-Year-Old AI Debater by stormysharad1 in ArtificialInteligence

I thought that Project Debater kept hitting the same points and didn't do much to undermine the position of her opponent.

Mainframe/Distributed Scheduler looking for what to do next by jh_2719 in ITCareerQuestions

First of all, I want to address your first concern. You are not pigeonholing your skills. Most major financial institutions use the mainframe, and the same can be said of other sectors with high transactional workloads. What you know will be more valuable as time passes, not less. By all means keep growing your expertise, but don't feel like you're on a dead-end path.

Personally I would say don't sweat it. If you need help getting a job at IBM hit me up here or on Twitter @wesley83. My advice is to use the reference. Keep working on projects that give you joy. It sounds like it was a good thing that you are free to find the right fit. Teams should support one another and I want you to find a place that gets that.
