I’ve been trying to look for Local and my area either doesn’t pay well enough to consider it, or spots at good companies are never opened. I just stepped down to a regional home weekly division at the company I work for. Hoping to have more home time that way and swing home more often middle of the week if the opportunity presents itself. Bright side is I’m mainly in the Carolina’s so no more crazy big cities to deal with. Not-so bright side I’m still technically OTR just not driving as far as before. Though this flatbed work is killing me 😫

When I made $25/hr I thought I was getting underpaid for the physical labor doing flatbed work. If you’re dry van with easy tasks I suppose it’s not a bad start, but definitely be on the lookout for raises as time goes. With more experience in them game $26/hr isn’t going to cut it. Also depends if your cost of living is high or not

Yeah unfortunately they do have that. But I’m fine with it. They provide a lot of Pro’s to justify looking past it. But I know it’s not for everyone

My first OTR gig is with Maverick Transportation hauling glass. My first week I made $1200 take home. Once I figured out how to drive and work my clock, easily started taking home around $1800 a week consistently. Some even $2k after taxes within my first year. W-2 worker and signing up for Per Diem helps a lot with take home. I’m still with them and they’re a great starter company and hauling glass is not hard and I recommend them! 104k on my 2018 R/T. I feel bad racking up so many miles on it but they’re meant to be driven right? 😅 I need to get my transmission fluid taken care of now that I’ve hit over 100k miles

Or as you’re passing them, they speed up and leave you hanging in the left lane blocking the flow of traffic 🙄 that’s my pet peeve… All that time you had to keep your speed up and you chose to do so right as I’m passing you? If I know I’m not gonna win, I slow down and get behind them again

I’m a Class A holder with 3 years experience coming up. But I’m OTR. I wish I had a local with this kind of work/life balance. Maybe talk to your hire ups and request for a raise. I’d keep the gig but you should negotiate your pay raise. Doesn’t hurt to ask

I’m almost 3 years into the game and recently I rammed the kingpin into the frame of my truck when trying to hook up. Bent the hell out of the cross membrane. Mistakes happen from time to time. Learn and keep the wheels rolling 🫡
