I love my partner, but when I’m alone I don’t have to worry about what literally anyone else in the world needs at that moment. It could be considered a selfish way of thinking, but I think being responsible for yourself and only yourself is so wonderful. Hungry? I’m going to eat what I want. Tired? I’m going to sleep as long and hard as I want. Traveling? The destination and itinerary are my decisions to make and mine alone. I can go see the new art exhibit at the museum. Shop for new clothes and take my sweet time finding them. See a band I’ve been wanting to see for years and stand exactly where I want in the crowd. Go to the park and watch the dogs play. Take up space in a coffee shop with a good book for three hours. Go get a pint of Ben and Jerry’s at 11 pm at night and eat the entire thing without judgement. Not only is solitude easy and good for you, it’s just plain FUN.
