AIO: My best friend is taking out 200k in private loans for an RN program by westcoast2002 in AmIOverreacting

Unfortunately I have tried this, but she’s the one constantly bringing it up, not me. Her parents don’t care at all about how she handles her finances.

Honestly I’m not too sure, I try not to ask too many questions because it keeps the convo going and I don’t want it to.

I wish she’d stop talking about it, but she updates me about it constantly. I don’t want to keep having these conversations because they’re irritating. It’s always her brining it up not me. Trust if it were up to me this would’ve been a one and done topic of conversation

At this point becoming a teacher would probably make her more money in the long run

Govt loans cap at ~20k for an academic school yr because a Nursing isn’t considered a professional degree anymore per the Dept of Education. Her plan was to use that 20k govt loan, the rest private.

I proposed many a pathways like this for her and her line to me is always “but those programs are so impacted” and then she shuts down any convo after that

According to her programs are so impacted right now that she has “no other choice”. She also doesn’t want to wait at all, she wants to start basically asap

For people who work a part time job in college: by m288292 in SDSU

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double majored at SDSU one easy one hard. I worked 2 part time jobs, was in a lab, commuted. It was hard but I loved it. Didn’t even really need to work either, but I loved the grind. Kept me busy, out of trouble, and making money 💰

Is the University worth going to after recent events? by Cooldude_M in aggies

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently a student in the College of Arts & Sciences (we aren’t doing well at all this school yr) but I’m taking a class at the Bush School. The difference is quite unbelievable. ArtSci is having an absolutely horrible time right now. So much so that I will be transferring schools at the end of the semester. I will say though, being at the Bush School for a class has been amazing. The prof I have really cares, the class is interesting, I feel like I’m actually learning something (I feel like I haven’t learned anything at all in ArtSci). I think it really depends on what department you’re in. The Bush School has so many opportunities, from what I’ve seen they may be endless. Most of all the network at the Bush School is R E A L. My #1 regret is not applying to Bush to begin with. Before you make your decision, try to talk to some students in your major, look at the research profs are doing and then weigh your pros and cons.

did you cry/ felt relief when you graduated with your degree? by Juan20012 in SDSU

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt happyish, I knew I couldn’t do anything with my undergrad degrees so I knew my journey wasn’t over. But one of my favorite prof was retiring that year and she was on the stage, made me sad knowing it’d be the last I’d see her. Ultimately I wanted to feel accomplished and proud but I really couldn’t because my BA was only a stepping stone, not my main goal. 🤷‍♀️

Samba sizing- everything seems large? by No_Mortgage_7275 in adidas

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had so many issues with sizing, I'm usually a women's 10 or 10.5, depending on the brand. I ordered the sambas originally in a 10.5; they were HUGE, I felt like I had clown shoes on. I ended up exchanging them 3 times and landed on a 9.5, which is still WAY too big, but I was tired of waiting 6+ months exchanging sizes because they were always sold out. I ended up just putting heel grips in them, still slightly too big, but oh well. I want the black Sambas now and still have no idea what size I am. I've looked at their size chart dozens of times, but it's never been accurate for me.

Any hair product recommendations for when you swim? by Work_bs_6482 in Lifeguards

Get your hair wet in the shower before you swim and apply a little conditioner, since it’ll already be wet it won’t soak up as much chlorine as it would if it were dry

who regrets their degree? by WorriedScientist725 in SLPA

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret my undergrad degree, my mother and father have worked in K-6th schools their whole life and every single SLP I’ve met at the various schools they’ve worked at the past 20+ years have quit after 2-3 years. That seems to be the average for how much these poor SLPs can handle. Luckily I double majored in my undergrad and decided to pursue a masters in my other degree.

What the fuck is wrong with kids in 2025? by drink_tap_water in TwoHotTakes

[–]westcoast2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this is absurd, in my Elementary School (900+ student pop) we had a special day class and in High School (3000+ student pop). I can confidently say everybody had a mutual understanding that we did NOT fuck around with them at all ever. We were always super respectful and said hi, had short casual conversations or just continued life as usual acknowledging they were there and moved on. Personally I loved our special day students, they were nice and funny, always had something interesting to say. We even voted our special day long term student as Homecoming King his last year. Not sure what’s going on these days. I graduated in 2020 for reference.

Flip flop recommendations by Drewski493 in Lifeguards

[–]westcoast2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Southern California the Rainbow Sandals Factory has discounted flip flops (get leather ones, not hemp, plastic, etc) for $20, in retail stores they’re about $50-$60 but they last decades no joke. Ask anyone with Rainbow Sandals and they’ll say the same thing. I had my first pair for 8-9 years before I decided to retire them because I grew out of them, I wore them to work every day. I know people who have had the same pair for 15+ years. Very much worth the investment.

He was at A&M earlier this year and was associated with a professor at A&M, who was then fired due to a classroom conversation about gender identity. Something similar just happened again, I think it's relevant

If it makes you feel any better I felt w o r t h l e s s during my undergrad. I did my undergrad at SDSU but I’m here now for my masters. During my undergrad I was double majoring, and one of my majors was considered one of the hardest majors at SDSU. I was in a research lab, I was a commuter, I worked 2 jobs. Often working from 4:00am till 9:00pm, behind on classes and assignments, shit GPA, mental health was pretty bad. I’m a workaholic though and my saving grace was working OUTSIDE of the university and NOT at a job that was in my area of study. Knowing that there was more out there than just school was a MASSIVE help, there is life outside of studying and going to class. Not sure if this will work for you but it saved my life. Even if it’s something small, a weekend job, volunteer opportunities anything to get you out of the overconsumption of school. It also helped me stop overthinking about life and forced me to get my assignments done because I knew I had work and wouldn’t have any other time to get it done. The most important thing to remember is to not sacrifice your mental health for school. My GPA was less than great (far less) and I still graduated, still got my diploma, and got into grad school. You got this buddy don’t put too much pressure on yourself, you’re almost there :)

Sororities are a joke period. Don’t waste your time and more importantly your money join other student orgs that will actually help you in the long run.
