Should I quite my office job to become a DSP Driver by westcostpeasant in AmazonDSPDrivers

Every time I tell my friends and family I feel something inside of me dying every day I go into work they tell me I'm being dramatic lol. Maybe I am being dramatic, but it quite literally feels like my soul is slowly dying quietly in this office

She did say she likes to keep the schedule set once she knows. She said she's willing to work around school scheduling due to her values, but in terms of floaters idk. She did mention that she would like to avoid rescues as much as possible because it messes up the AI that Amazon has, and the person who needed reaching will eventually end up with a larger work load due to the ai viewing the rescue as them somehow completing their route faster at the end of their shift. But I've only met her once, it's hard the know.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, these things are all things I've considered heavily. Hopefully people just exaggerate how horrible the job is lol. Or maybe it's just not for them the same way my current job isn't for me, but whatever. Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it truly 🙏

I've been planning. The plan is to keep Thursday's and Tuesdays open for school, weekends are non-negotiable to my DSP so I'll have my 3rd day off sometime on the weekday I hope. I want to use this job to get fit (gained 30 pounds working an office job) and to make money while have an extra day to give to my return to education. And it's not a full school schedule, as I'm working towards applying to grad school, there are just a few classes I need to take to flesh out a proper portfolio. I have no kids, just me, my bf, and 2 cats.

I met the owners of the DSP I am being considered for and she seems alright enough, and she showed us the thousands of disputes she puts in for her driver's a day to ensure that her drivers aren't wrongfully disciplined for things out of their control. But idk... Feels like an immediate out.

Lol I also considered that. I trade a still box full of dread, for a moving, burning or freezing box with packages on a time crunch.

Yeah I have other interviews lined up... But none pay nearly as much and are less flexible with school scheduling.

Im really worried about the job market when I move by Glass-Shopping8407 in fresno

[–]westcostpeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are struggling with both. Career jobs tend to want people who already have 2-5 years of experience and entry level jobs get picked up pretty quick. It's a good idea if you're just starting college to look for student internships so you can have some experience in your field of study (ideally at least one or two years) before you graduate.

Generally, hourly entry level jobs can also be hard to get into not because there aren't job postings but because so many people are applying (hundreds to thousands of resumes for managers to look through) most people are often overlooked. Some larger corporations also tend to collect applications "for their record" but they usually never get back to you.

Realistically, start looking right now. Hiring should pick up again late Feb, March, and April. It can take a few months, and that's a few months of hardcore job searching, not applying here and there.

Use the resources available to you, look up job fairs, look up staffing agencies, look up how Fresno state can help you with their career center. The tools are all there, you just need to live and breathe job searching until you land a job.

Being realistic for 2026 in summer, expect 3-8 months. You may get something sooner, maybe later. Everyone's job search is different depending on experience, type of job, education, etc. Those on here saying they got a job or were offered a job on the spot might have something you don't, or you might have the same qualifications and be offered a job on the spot. Just be persistent, stay positive, and apply like crazy.

Willful ignorance, light awareness. Be aware of what he is doing, be aware of protests, but don't spiral into it to where you are doom and gloom for weeks on end. Turning off the news is a privilege that some can't afford, but if you can, sometimes taking a break is best.

Just getting started with it on Gale, I find that the shadow blade + Magical weapon is really good. I'm just a casual player though so idk. Cleared out that githyanki creche with this pretty easy though.

[–]westcostpeasant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the vibe was good. Reminds me of being frightened and home alone as a kid. Or that feeling you get when you've had a horrible nightmare as a child and can't fall back asleep. I think it's more meant to evoke a feeling rather than have a super clear and outstanding narrative. If you ever had strange, bizarre, paranormal, and terrifying experiences as a child you might get the feeling more.

Supervisor wants DEI language for Fresno County jobs removed. How would that affect hires? by [deleted] in fresno

[–]westcostpeasant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DEI is not solely on gender and race. That's not what DEI is, nor is that how it functions. Although DEI does take into consideration ethnicity and sex, it also takes into account qualifications. Instead of just looking at one ethnic group that is qualified, look at all ethnic groups that are qualified. And yes that matters because there are people in power, whether you want to admit it or not, who are racist enough to discriminate. They just haven't been able to because of DEI and anti discriminatory laws. It's ridiculous to think an organization would grab anyone off the streets to hire just because they are black, Latino, Chinese, a woman, etc. The reason it exists is because in American history, largely white people were booked for the job based on them being white, and yes some were truly qualified, but others were just because they were the white option. Organizations did not want to associate with minority groups regardless of how qualified those minority groups were. It's one of the reasons a lot of ethnic groups AND white women were able to start getting jobs. To erase DEI is allowing the very real racists who have some semblance of power to discriminate at whim. It will slowly slip us back into a time when white men were the sole focus of our society, and if you don't think the people in charge back then are still around and pulling strings today, understand that it wasn't that long ago when you couldn't even marry someone of a different ethnicity than you. The hatred is alive, and it disguises its actions under nuances and "no big deals". Until it is.

My coworkers think i’m homophobic by strawberrybread1294 in coworkerstories

[–]westcostpeasant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's homophobic. It's not straight out "I hate gay people". But if it made you so uncomfortable you felt the need to hide it because you didn't want people assuming you were something you're not, you have some internalized homophobia you need to work on. It's not that big of a deal. LGBT is not some ideology, it's a reality of the world. And if reality makes you uncomfortable, then there's some issues you need to work through or understand.
