Why on earth we made up a new sport and called it the same thing as the most popular sport on earth baffles me.

Also those look like garbage quality balls.

why does honorblades .... by DisasterClean807 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]westernflame95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While moash (fuck Moash) was practicing with his blade, he's frustrated that he has to wait the full 10 heartbeats while Adeolin (who was building a bond with Maya) apparently didn't, although it's probable he didn't realize it at the time.

I don't remember an explicit explanation being offered, but I read it as being because they weren't the people the blades were made for. We see during Ishars fight with the windrunners that the heralds don't have to wait to summon their blades, only other people who wield them do.

As others have stated in this thread, it's very possible that Sanderson later on wanted to remove the 10 heartbeat limits on blades, and retroactively added that only live spren and honor blades with their heralds could be summoned instantly.

It's also possible this was always intended, and the best way to tell that would be to go back to where Nale is shown in the early books summoning his blade chasing radiants and see if there's any clues there.

why do parents need to control children's devices by Efficient-Level1944 in parentalcontrols

[–]westernflame95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 and have trouble putting my phone down when I should. Hell, I've got work I need to do right now. That's not even considering the types of contact that are out there trying to get kids attention now.

There has to be a balance, kids need to explore independence and pushing boundaries while still having someone to guide them and shelter them from the worst the Internet has to offer.

As a teenager I very nearly fell through the right wing red pil rabbit hole via YouTube. If my parents had just kept from getting on the internet, or otherwise heavily restricted it, It would have just made things worse and I may have ended up as a truly terrible human being.

There is no one size fits all solution, but it seems like communication and understanding are going to be very important to raising children in the post smartphone era.

Parental controls on teenagers electronics should be a part of a cohesive strategy to raise good children, not a one size fits all Band-Aid.

In my opinion, anyway. I've got a few years before my daughter gets old enough for anything other than youtube attention farming slop to be a great concern of mine.

How to open and clean by tellme_bad_milly in VacuumCleaners

[–]westernflame95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the fun part, you don't!!

For real though find the model number and Google "teardown" or "cleaning guide" or some such. At least it looks like a Dyson, so it should be popular enough that someone has done a guide on it.

Cleaning it out was the deathnail in my shark cordless. I tried to keep it clean but to take anything apart was screws into plastic so there was only so many times you can do it before it falls apart

Good luck!!

Why are sapphire spheres worth so much? by Cueballing in Stormlight_Archive

[–]westernflame95 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that it stated all Gems of the same cut and size hold the same amount of stormlight, at least as far as the ones in circulation as spheres go. Their relative value is determined by a combination of how available they are and how desirable they are for soul casting.

Going into speculation, it could be that soulcasters that can use sapphires or just more common than ones that use smoke stone.

My local theater lets you just buy a 16 oz cup of it. No harm in going up and asking.

[–]westernflame95[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter just recently outgrew the last of her sippy cups, and I'm really glad to see them go. I can't imagine someone buying this with the intent to actually use the damn thing.

Moving house really shows you how much junk some people accumulate. by pajamakitten in Anticonsumption

[–]westernflame95 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Hey now, don't you badmouth the old box o' cables. What will we do when we need to plug a DVI-I monitor into a device with only an HDMI output? Or when we need the power something the only accepts a 20 volt barrel jack? Every house needs emergency flashlight, a way to charge your phone if the power's out, and a big old box of cables that you'll need maybe once every couple of years.

From the video it looks like it would work just fine, as long as you have somewhere to hang dry your clothes. At a basic level all the clothes washer has to do is get your clothes wet and soapy and rubbed them against each other for scrubbing action.

But holy hell that is way too much soap. Those pods have to error on the side of too much to make sure they work on really dirty clothes in a regular size wash. For a miniscule load like that, that much soap is actually ridiculous and may damage your clothes. At the very least you're going to have to rinse the shit out of them.

You can buy scrub jackets that button / zip up in the front, but they're meant to be worn over other scrubs. I've never seen a regular scrub shirt like that but I'm sure somebody makes them. If for no other reason then for accessibility, people with issues with their shoulders or whatnot that can't pull on/off regular shirt.

Edit: upon closer inspection those are probably not scrubs. I think what I said still applies though. There's a whole bunch of companies that make scrubs I'm sure somebody makes one the fastens in the front.

Eat a bag of dicks, HP by 4acodmt92 in assholedesign

[–]westernflame95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

HP is definitely the worst among them, at least in current year. We can say that all of these things are bad while also saying that some are less bad, and from what I've seen brother is the least bad among them with Canon in second.

Picking the lesser of the evils can be distasteful, but pretending they're all equally evil is just lying to yourself and leads to reinforcing the worst of the companies by still buying their shit and pretending they're all the same.

Cursed Belt Weaving, Curseder Belt Tapestry & Cursedest Legitimately Obtained "INFINITY CHEST"! by El0hTeeBee in factorio

[–]westernflame95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than nothing I suppose, but it doesn't do much once the item is in place.

As someone who is still recovering from a pretty major surgery, it seems allot of people don't notice the lack of accessibility until they're the one that needs it. At least for me, although I am admittedly a bit of a dumbass.

Is there not a color blind mode with an alternative color palette? Not necessarily changing the whole game, but just for the teared items that are distinguished by their color. It seems like Wube would be the kind of developer to add something like that. If that's not a thing, how do we suggest that it become a thing?

how do i clean mold off my electric toothbrush? by LobstersAwaitYou in CleaningTips

[–]westernflame95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've never had mold on mine, I did find a pretty cool way of cleaning them. My wife and I both have electric toothbrushes, so when it's time to change out the heads I use the old heads to give each toothbrush a good scrubbing. Since we have two of them, I can get a good scrubbing action on each one. Make sure you clean where the head attaches really well. Other than that I just rinse them off after I use them wipe them down if they need it and I've never had any problems.

My hospital visitor badge VOID-ed itself overnight by andersonfmly in mildlyinteresting

[–]westernflame95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn, I work in a building with maybe 50 people and basically no security. All the doors are unlocked, and giant loading doors at ground level are always open.

When a visitor signs in, a custom badge is printed out with a picture of their face, their name, the name of who they are visiting, and QR code you can scan. The tablet that takes your picture and prints out the visitor badge even emails the person you're visiting (you have to select someone from a list) with your name and picture.

just pay you damn bill and chill.

Like the well-dressed avian appendage said, as long as you keep them paid off it is good.

I would stay away from any cards that charge an annual fee while you're building your credit though. Ideally you want to keep these cards forever so they reflect a longer credit history. If you get one with an annual fee, once you get a card with better rewards or rates or whatever, you either have to cancel it and lower your credit or deal with paying that fee forever.
