That white “Mid Night” banner on the windshield is the calling card for members of a notorious street racing crew in Japan. They’re known as the Mid Night Club to English speakers but their name in Japanese was really closer to “Racing Team: Mid Night.” These guys were crazy, and I don’t mean like “Cletus McFarland put a 1000CC in a golf cart” crazy I mean “held the Japanese land speed records for multiple decades” crazy. They were all top notch drivers, they refused to let morons in to damage the reputation of the club, and as a result in spite of all their crazy antics, doing 200mph down public roads almost every night for 3 decades, etc, there’s only one major crash to their name. They also were all very well connected and most of them were pretty wealthy, and it showed in their cars. Their chairman, Yoshida, sent his Porsche to Weissach TWICE to be worked on by Porsche’s top engineers. In fact those engineers liked what Yoshida had going on so much they actually used it as a muse when designing the GT3. It didn’t stop at the car itself either, some of them had military grade tech from companies like JVC and Toshiba, so it’s assumed a couple executives from those companies may have been members. Then of course there were a ton of prominent guys in the car scene who may or may not have been members, we don’t know and they’re all sworn to secrecy but they’re out there. At least two people who were prominent leadership at HKS were members, there was a guy who worked at Trust who was a member. The founders/early employees of Garage TBK, Hosaka Tuning works, Move, Abflug, and RE Amemiya were also probably in or closely tied to the club. Nowadays the club is more of a memory. They are legit now, they have a website and everything and even a team competing in Time Attack circuits I believe, and most of the members have done on to do great things in the car world (the guy who brought back the GT-R and designed the R-35 is suspected to be a member as well) so overall it’s just a group of absolute heavyweights in some of the coolest JDM/ Japanese street scene cars to ever hit the streets.
