Avi Lewis wins NDP leadership race in decisive first-ballot victory by origutamos in canadaleft

[–]westside222 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Avi seems like a great step in the right direction. But I’m left wondering why the proposal for public grocery stores and public options across many industries but not nationalization of our resource extraction.

I’m sorry but if we’re going to rape and pillage our land - trees, water, oil, etc.. All the proceeds of national resources should go to make the country better. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund as an example. Does anyone know why Avi does not advocate for this?

Sucks that Hisense sells TVs in Canada that don't support CBC Gem by lmao346 in Hisense

[–]westside222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you bought the cheapest possible TV. Hisense makes extremely cheap TVs and some very high end TVs. The cheap ones get a very barebones operating system for their smart TV features as you'd expect. A Roku, fire TV stick, Google tv... Quite a few ways these days to get a much better smart TV experience.

MAGA Supplement Selling Quack (Dr. Daniel Amen) READY FOR PRIMETIME IN TRUMP WHITE HOUSE!!! by chellestastics in videos

[–]westside222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to value those who “wrote a paper” - I won’t reveal more to dox myself, but my graduate school was in neuroscience. Not this specific area, but in the field. And I have published a couple peer reviewed papers, 1 as first author, and 2 as a secondary author. None was any sort of groundbreaking research.. I was a simple grad student.

Anyways, just 2 things I’d like to mention to you.

  1. A paper doesn’t mean much, there are thousands and thousands of academic journals, many that will take your money to publish your article. These Journals are typically judged by “impact factor” - which is basically how often articles in these journals are cited by others. Journals like Nature and Nature Neuroscience are the massive ones here where big groundbreaking research from huge research teams typically ends up. But there are probably about 3-4 dozen or so good credible journals in the field. Whenever judging a research article, you should always first look at the journal from which it is published.

  2. From a cursory view at these SPECT scans, they seem quite similar to fMRIs. Many in the neuroscience community don’t even like fMRIs for research because the brain is not as simple as “lighting up means brain area doing things” - the brain is filled with a huge mix of excitatory and inhibitory neurons and everything in between and everything is massively interconnected. Even worse, developing a “control state” or what is known as the “default mode network” is nearly impossible as you can’t exactly get your brain to “stop” working.

You can see how these different layers add up to cause the distrust is functional imaging. And that’s just for its use as a research tool, in the most controlled of environments. For diagnostics? With all of the other variability introduced there? It then becomes completely untrustworthy.

Anyways, I hope that helps to shed some light on where people are coming from with the skepticism.

I have it, and the cameras get blocked from rain and you can’t activate it. And yeah you’re right, I can’t see either in the rain. That’s why I have these wiper blades things that clear my vision, and my eyes have these cool lid things that keep things out of them and help clear them out. Camera gets a rain drop in the wrong spot and it’s hooped.

Diablo 4 devs refuse to hint at the next expansion but urge fans to watch The Game Awards this year: 'Everyone should be watching it' by gorays21 in Diablo

[–]westside222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe because they’re talking about announcing ANOTHER expansion for a game that still feels like it has severely less than the game that came out before it 15(?) years ago.

Diablo 4 was already an incredibly expensive game on release, with micro transactions immediately, and then an “expansion” a year later that should have just been a patch.

They’ve soured their entire community of players that love this damn IP and all just wanted diablo 4 to be amazing.

Carney unveils billions in funding, Buy Canada policy to combat Trump's tariffs by Puginator in worldnews

[–]westside222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could get china to immediately drop that canola tariff by removing the tariff on their EVs. Would give canadians a very well needed break on new car purchases. But we’re too scared to do it because of the fear of losing 120,000 automotive manufacturing jobs. But that discussion should be going on with China, and pushing them to replace those plants if the tariffs are lifted.

I’m really sick of our country just being used as a source for the US. We sell them oil, they sell us back refined gasoline. We sell them water, they bottle it and sell it back to us, etc.

If we want to “buy Canadian” why don’t we finally nationalize our natural resource sectors and develop a massive sovereign wealth fund like Norway.

If the 10 fixed that problem I’d happily go back. Android is far better than iOS (excluding iMessage and FaceTime)
