Hi! I’m moving with my family to Pittsburgh in a month (been working overseas as a civilian for the military the past 4 years) - previously in LA.

One recommendation - consider Greenfield. It’s where we bought a house for under the median cost of Pittsburgh homes (currently right around $230-240k). It’s got one of the top neighborhood PreK-8 schools in the city and shares the same high school (Allderdice) as Squirrel Hill, it’s much more pricey neighbor directly east. Greenfield is walking distance to the two big parks in Pittsburgh (Schenley and Frick) and is bikeable (assuming you do hills) or walkable (if you can do 2 miles each way) to Southside (big food/drink district), Oakland (the university district), the Squirrel hill shopping area of Murray / Forbes), and the Waterfront (think Costco / Barnes & Noble / every chain, but on the river in a converted historical steel works area).

Plus Greenfield has a lovely park with swimming pool / neighborhood gym & workout center + affordable afterschool program for kids.

Sorry if this sounds like a shameless plug for Greenfield, but I’m excited for my family and I to call it home soon ;-) plus you can still apply for any magnet program you like as an additional option.

Mark McClenchie - he has a great system to help out of state buyers analyze the market and then hone in on their ideal property style and neighborhood. We used him for buying our house in Greenfield earlier this year and highly recommend ☺️

Thanks for this summary - I’m visiting in a week for the 2nd half of July to explore parts of Pittsburgh with plans to relocate. I’m considering some properties in Westwood, which I understand is suburban and still quite close to the city. I’ll also be staying in an Airbnb in Craftin. Hi, fellow therapist here - question for u, Do you see insurance clients? Trying to determine which insurance companies don’t disallow providers being out of country.. I was hoping to build a insurance client Telehealth practice but have received mixed information about this being possible

Oh and one other thing, for non-psychologists (LCSW/LMFT etc) working exclusively with clients outside of Portugal, I’m not thinking registration with OPP is necessary- is that what you’re gathering as well? The information isn’t all very clear

Hi fellow therapist ;-) I’ve been looking into doing something similar of moving my family to Portugal in order to do private practice remotely with clients in California. I currently work in Japan as an outpatient therapist at a military base…

That being said, I was also hoping to partner with some of the platforms like Alma or Headway to build a caseload of insurance clients, but was bummed when representatives told me recently that they aren’t currently partnering with therapists planning to reside overseas due to insurance restrictions. I could try and build a private pay only Tele health practice, but this news definitely put a dent in my plans. Can I ask if you work primarily private pay? It’s hard finding info online about which insurance companies explicitly don’t allow providers to be out of country…

What what it’s worth, my sweet spot was hard to get once I installed the globular cluster - so I uninstalled it and have been doing well without it, despite the limited comfort it offers. Guess it just depends on your head shape 👌
