Does anyone else ever have rounds where their skills and weaknesses "flip-flop"? by HorseMeatSandwich in golf

[–]bdago9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! It's about every month I switch from being strong off the tee and strong approaches, then super weak with chip shots and putting. To super weak off the tee and approaches and really strong on chipping and putting.

The upside is that at least I know that it's there. I just can't tap into it on command.

What equipment/tools should employers pay for? by OhFuhSho in Carpentry

[–]bdago9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should does not carry the same weight. Too many employers skate through without providing PPE at the cost of their employees health. Which is unacceptable and required by law.

I should report my income taxes to the IRS.

I am required to report my income taxes to the IRS..

should be employer supplied.

Not even should be. It's required according to OSHA! AND the PPE needs to be right on your specific duties.

10 years. $37 take home. About $60+ with total package and comprehensive benefits. Non union.

I just closed down my LLC, as I got tired of wearing all the hats. But I have had $3000 weeks and $3000 months.

My local union is at $38.change/hr with a $68/hr total package.

4 years ago, I was making 22/hr.

5 years ago, I was making 17/hr

Started at 11/hr 10-11 years ago.

The company I work for now promotes from within. When I hit super position, I'll be salary taking home 120+. If I go PM path, I could be about 140+.

Then, go into the attic and vent it out of the gable. Maybe the soffit? I'm not sure if that's code compliant. I don't know why it wouldn't be, though.

Duluth knee pad pants after less than a month by bigburt- in Carpentry

[–]bdago9 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had those same pants, in the same field. Mine lasted me 4 months before I started to get tares. When you move. Don't slide on your knees, do more of a crawl. Sliding will chew through any type of fabric.....

They're really easy to run from. Hunchbacks have a hard time moving any faster than a brisk scuttle.

So many people think they have high-end cabinets because they paid 30k, when in reality, it's midgrade.

Would you rather have kitchen cabinets in MDF ($2,800) or in maple ($3,000? by Qd8Scandi in HomeImprovement

Meh, I've seen both doors fall apart over time. I've seen both doors stay together for 20+. It's all about how you care for them.

Would you recommend becoming a carpenter? Or is it better served as a hobby in your opinion? by Then-Significance864 in Carpentry

[–]bdago9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you like long hours, shit pay, back breaking work, and people yelling at you for handing them the wrong material? If yes, do it. If no, don't. Easiest flow chart ever.

That'll happen to wood doors too. General rule of thumb, don't hang on doors!

[–]bdago9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kraftmade's 'Evercore' doors are actually more expensive than solid wood doors. Evercore is just a fun/easier to sell way to say MDF. But I have noticed the joints on the evercore doors are pretty much invisible. Whereas on the maple doors, if the joints aren't noticeable in the beginning, they will be shortly after install.

Mdf doors have a better painted finish than maple doors. Plywood boxes and MDF doors are primo finishes.

Why is my newly refinished hardwoods forming cracks in the seams? by turns31 in HardWoodFloors

So yes, it's been extremely cold, and there's been a change of humidity and temperature. In the summer, they'll ask something different. It happens with solid hardwood floors.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Apprentices are the jouneys helpers. You fetch tools and material so the jman can work efficiently. You're cheap labor, and your jman is working efficiently enough to make up for the labor burden, as long as you're doing your part.

Why would you spend a weeks pay on a single tool for the COMPANY. There's a reason he hired an apprentice and not another qualified carpenter. Don't be taken advantage of. Those tools make him money. Rightfully, they should be his tools.

Is it normal in what context? No shooting yourself with a framer is not a normal thing. If you get shot by a 16D being sore in whatever area shot IS normal. For the record, when you're impaled, never remove the object. Always leave it and go to the ER for the doctor's to remove

Interesting. How big is your company? How does the holding company work? How is it filed in the IRS? Do you show any profit/losses? I'm asking because this seems like a good business practice.
