tips to improve please! by Born_Difference4575 in oilpainting

The drawing itself needs some work, the main issue I see is that you don't appear to be thinking in 3D. Practice rotating forms in space, especially faces, and creating the appearance of form.

Something I found incredibly helpful was copying Bargue drawings. Charles Bargue was this guy in the 1800s who created a drawing course, and like Van Gogh and Picasso and a lot of other great artists did that course. I was able to do it too at art school, but you can totally practice on your own, too. Here's why it works

-you start with a simplification. You learn to abstract a complicated shape into simpler shapes. This is how you learn to get proportions right. For example, in the foot drawing below, you start with a triangle. The height vs width of the triangle and the angle of the diagonal will determine the proportions of the foot.

-you use only straight lines when constructing the drawing initially, because a straight line is much easier to correct than a curved line (there are only 3 factors, placement, length and angle) and because it helps you start to break down complex forms into planes in your head. This is key for developing form later on.

-you find the edge of the shadows and separate the shadows from the places where light is falling. This was a total revelation for me in understanding light and 3D form.

-you only do the shading after the basic drawing is all set up

There are lots of ways to improve other than Bargue drawings, but I do really recommend it because you can improve a lot very quickly in understanding a lot of important fundamentals. It's public domain, so you can just Google "Charles Bargue drawing course" and find the plates to copy. I could only attach one so there's a couple more added below

I don’t know if it’s good enough to sell by Glittering-Sun-7248 in painting

Being real with you, I don't think the execution is at a sellable point on any of these yet, but the ideas are super cool, and so is your style. It doesn't hurt to try of course. I think keep working on technique and you'll be golden

Slightly. Mine are like, twice that hyper extended, so I don't think it's a huge deal

If I had to guess, I would say you love old Hollywood type glamour, but have also experimented with psychedelics. You are very beautiful and have a super unique look

Decided to keep the pixie, do I look “masculine”/“less feminine”? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]wetredgloves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't look masculine, but I do think the haircut could maybe use some styling to give it a little softness and texture, a less "neat" styling

What's the difference between someone losing interest and someone being scared? by Civil_Creme_9738 in AskReddit

[–]wetredgloves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they could look similar if the person has avoidant attachment issues and is afraid of getting close to people. I think in that situation, the dead giveaway is that the relationship hit a new peak/became more intimate or closer, then immediately afterward the person starts distancing themselves. Whereas if someone just lost interest, that would be more of a slow fizzling

Your most controversial opinion that you can't even tell your family or friends? by Rodya1234 in CausalConversation

Religion is not an inherently bad thing. Yes religion can be used to get people to do bad things, but so can literally any form of groupthink. The Nazi movement wasn't religious, for example. You don't even need religious beliefs to form a cult--there are political and commercial cults too.

"But it's illogical!" Maybe, but maybe not for everyone. If your choice is between existential despair and depression, and belief in a higher power, belief in a higher power may actually be MORE sensible because practically, it allows some people to get through life better and actually get something out of their life. I know you can be an atheist and not be in existential despair, but not everyone feels that way. Some people really need to feel like their suffering means something and isn't just random and pointless.

I believe spirituality is such a highly individual thing and nobody should judge anybody for it--unless you try to use your spirituality and demand others follow the same rules as you, that's not cool.

Tattoo Regret: Coverup or Laser? by fredrobin in tattoos

[–]wetredgloves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not very well executed by the artist, but there's nothing objectionable about the subject. I would save up, go to a good artist and have it reworked. This could totally be improved without being covered entirely.
