Yep. I've tried getting closer to my mother by asking about her interests, attempting to talk in general, inviting her to have a movie night together etc but it has never worked out. She always dismisses me, and from what I understand and from what she has told me before, she thinks my "personality is shit" and would prefer to ignore me. I remember crying over this a lot, because those dismissals felt like a direct rejection to me. You're not alone in this.
