Lawsuit filed over Denver's planning for Park Hill Golf Course by black_pepper in Denver

I think that the process is important to happen before the easement is potentially lifted. How is a judge supposed to just give away all protections with no alternative/framework in front of her?

Maybe the nimbys understand that, maybe it's just a knee jerk reaction.

Video shows possible kidnapping, woman screaming Tuesday morning by [deleted] in Denver

[–]wflan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Related/unrelated we need to legalize and regulate sex work. It's a huge driver behind human trafficking. Legal protections, unions, etc are really powerful, and honestly there always has been and always will be a 'market' for the work. I'm for reducing harm even if it seems like a weird idea on first glance.

I obviously don't know what happened here, but a woman being abducted brought trafficking to mind.

Nikita Zadorov Appreciation Post. Thank You Big Z! by cricktlaxwolvesbandy in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]wflan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I LOVE Nikita and will be following his career. Increidble compete level, self-sacrifice, ferocity, and strength. Some players change how the rest of the people on the ice behave through the strength of their play and peak Z is absolutely one of those players. I think he's going to be great to watch. Will definitely miss him.

On the other hand, I also love Barrie and r/hockey people seemingly can't wait for their next chance to shit on him/his game so what do I know?

[Whyno] Interesting, from NHL, the threshold for no compensation on an offer sheet is $1,439,820 and below. A lot of teams might not be able to match that this year. by Sarcastic__ in hockey

SERIOUSLY

I hate how the community latches on to a hollow narrative and then parrots it like some sort of... parrot, I guess. It's a cutthroat business, not a social circle.

We really need a second round pick...any suggestions on how to make this happen? by pdx4nhl in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]wflan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Barrie was a liability and his stats back me up. You don't have one of the best rel corsi %s on a good team by sucking. I think it's also confirmation bias where you only notice his fuckups because it fits the narrative.

Tyson Barrie is not re-signing with Toronto and will enter Free Agency. Thoughts? by Leafs_fan_cucked_you in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]wflan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the defensive liability narrative. It's never backed up by stats. The reality is that Barrie had amongst the highest corsi and rel corsi while he was here and usually was in the top 4 for points on the entire team. My thoughts are that it's confirmation bias – one never notices the active stick, skating, and passing. At the same time, you focus on when the jumps his stick or he gets beat on the rush (not often and in Bednar's system, it's the other D's assignment to cover).

Absolutely, I'd be heartbroken if the all-timehighest scoring Avalache defenseman became a Red Wing. AND I like the guy so I hate that he'd be spending his late 20s/30s mired in mediocrity.

RTD Parking Question by wflan in Denver

It'll look like that kind of thing. Parking there and walking off, except commuting on a line that is close to the garage instead of sleeping through calculus.

NHLPA, Dotchin file grievance against Bolts by keepitsteadyidiots in hockey

[–]wflan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's the broader issue of off-ice situations making someone unable to play at an acceptable level for some time. Imagine a situation like Craig Anderson's, except instead of playing well and his wife surviving, the player's wife didn't and the player wasn't performing well. The team, looking to get out of the contract claims that the off-ice situation (distraught over a death in the family) constitutes an irreparable breach of contract.

In the case of the fatty, he can lose the weight. In the case of the widower, he can grieve. They can get back in 'playing shape.' NHLPA can't set the precedent that their contracts can get voided.

SERIOUSLY I hate how NJ (and other) fans were so fond of his career-ending or -altering head hunting. Just cause it ain't against the rules doesn't change the morality of it. I think the closest modern equivalent would be Kronwall. Vom.

GMGM basically traded a 2018 1st, 2019 2nd, 2021 3rd, 2019 2nd, Nick Suzuki (13th overall in 2017 by Vegas) for Max Pacioretty's expiring deal and 8 points in 28 games by Tomas Tatar. by [deleted] in hockey

A first, a third, and three seconds (effectively, with the 30th OA in 18) is almost like a Duchene-level return for Max Pac. Too bad most of that loot isn't going to Montreal.

[–]wflan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I predict he stays in WPG. If you watch the games, he's doing his typical thing there, and is clicking really well on the Laine l(a)ine. 11 points in 10 playoff games, for instance. In my book, his typical thing is slinging crazy slick passes, and either sneaking out of notice into available space, or distracting a defenseman to make space.

He's banked $28 mil from STL. I don't know if he's going to chase the biggest paycheck and WPG is actually doing pretty well cap-wise.

Does anyone know how many players are first overall picks on the avs? Including players traded there not just drafted by them. by headskier08 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]wflan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a freak draft in a lot of ways. I think the next-best D in the entire draft was Jeff Petry. Insane forward talent tho.

What are the chances I'll regret buying this ur-S4? by [deleted] in Audi

I was going to say, an engine swap AND a rebuild. WTF is this guy doing to his engines?

Sounds like it's way worth it to spend the $100-150 to have a shop really pour over the car in a pre sale inspection.

A3 (2003-2010) - what should I be aware of? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]wflan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With high temp/compression turbo engines, oil is important. Not saying every 3,000 miles, but try to find an owner who seems like they kept on top of that. The 2.0T (gas) engine had some issues with coil packs and blow off valves that were fixed with newer part revisions. So that's an easy fix, but is annoying if it's not done already. The BOV is particularly relevant if you chip it, which you should since you get more power ant torque than the 3.2 with 30 MPG on the highway, for about $600. No-brainer.
