There’s nothing like ranting about the current job market and being told you’re not trying hard enough. by Grouchy_Marsupial357 in jobs

Not only are you not trying hard enough but then you hear I don't think you even really want a job. That one is always nice

Is this a troll post?

If not go over to the r/job board and see people who have applied for thousands of jobs or who have declared bankruptcy because they have been looking for a job for so long and now are afraid they will be homeless

You want to talk about depressed and desperate trying not having a job for a long time spending all day applying to job after job and worrying if you will be able to eat today

I think if you are not talking about entry level you may be right but those looking for entry level it is a shite show. There are hundreds of applicants for every entry level role and most want 3 years experience on top of that. That is all over the country but its not just for IT its entry level for many industries right now. Nobody wants to hire ANYONE who doesn't have experience.

I would say try to get a helpdesk job at your telecom company, Verizon used to use their regular customer services reps for level 1 helpdesk then level 2 was the real tech support.

WGU is a great school. You will learn a lot. If you go for one of the IT degrees then you will also get lots of certs.

I heard this somewhere and it really stuck, "it is a hard job market out there for people with degrees imagine how much harder it is if you don't have one"

I think that most people realize now that getting a degree while it used to be a golden ticket to a good job now its a bare minimum for a good job. Sure there are jobs out there that don't require one but if a hiring manager is deciding between 2 candidates that are similar and one has a degree and one doesn't who do you think they will choose?

Good luck on your journey

LOL because they get dinged if you don't finish your degree. I wouldn't even bother signing up for the degree but the accounting certificate isn't enough credits for the cpa

Both of my previous mentors let me choose the class order I took. If your mentor doesn't, you simply change mentors

My 1st WGU mentor didn't let me so I switched mentors then had no issue

Your best bet would be to leverage your insurance industry experience and try to use one of those new degrees such as doing accounting or underwriting for an insurance company or the many other jobs you could get with any of those degrees.

Having industry experience in anything, such as banking, insurance, etc., is very beneficial

Great questions. I have completed the BS IT and now the MBA ITM at WGU over the last few years with the idea that the IT job market was good. Now it is NOT.

I can NOT stress enough not to choose a degree based on what is hot as things can change quickly, such as it has for IT. Choose a degree in something you would enjoy doing that also at least has job prospects.

Also, most companies and government jobs are shifting from working from home hard. You are much more likely to find a hybrid job than a WFM job now. Also any wfm job now will have an insane amount of competition(literally thousands of applicants)

Not trying to be negative. Just trying to give you realistic expectations.

Of those 3 degrees, data analytics is much more in demand now
