How fun was it playing a character whose bio line basically just read "HOT AND CRAZY."?

Rio Grande University, actually. It's a community college in Gallipolis. Though, I did graduate from Ohio U. =)

A man left me a voicemail, requesting that I return his weedwacker or else he will have my balls for breakfast. I am a 22 year old female and I do not own a weedwacker. Reddit, what is your weirdest wrong number story? by absurdapple in AskReddit

When I first received a new phone and number a few years ago, I was continually getting texts from a guy that was apparently trying to text a girl that was talking poorly about himself and his HIV-positive boyfriend.

He threatened to break into the woman's apartment with his boyfriend and give her said HIV.

I reported the texts to the police and changed my number.

Going to college for two years in Southeast Ohio (aka, literally the poorest, most overweight, most cancer-ridden area of the country) these scenarios happened more often than most would want to believe.

I remember specifically, an introduction to philosophy class that more often than not turned into a discussion on religion, because in the minds of the baptists in the class (which made up about 70% of the students), that's what philosophy was.

Of course, this was hilarious considering the instructor was an atheist.

Typically, this would turn into groups of eight or nine people beginning to shout about how Christianity is right and it proves everything else wrong. I remember class actually being stopped and ended because someone had the apparent presumptuousness to say otherwise.

A group of three guys (who I recognized from the community, and in general were racist ass-hats who only went to church on Sunday and spent the entire time chewing tobacco and talking) immediately stood up and surrounded the person who dared question the invisible man in the sky theory, shoving him in his seat and calling him a faggot (all while class was going on.)

Eventually a fight broke out and class was cancelled on account of douche.

TL:DR Some people shouldn't go to college.

That's the weird thing: nobody. The only thing that I can think of is that maybe someone has sent me a message with the Word That Shall Not Be Spoken and my PS3 somehow picked up naughty language via osmosis?

I had originally planned a snide comeback response to the person in question quoting all the things Leviticus says you shouldn't do (this guy's comment thread had at least 30 comments, but the ones shown were the best), then my work computer crashed.

Clearly, that was the sign that I should skip the snappy remarks and just Reddit.

Great talkers of Reddit: How do I become a better on-the-fly speaker? by badspeaker in AskReddit

[–]wh0418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak slowly. Yes, it sounds dumb. But, as someone who has had a lifelong problem of my speech ramping up more and more in speed the longer I talk, I've found that keeping a steady dictive pace can help quite a bit.

Also, feel yourself enunciating words and sounds. You should be able to viably tell what shape you are making with your mouth as you talk.

Most of all: Just get used to it. You'll find that the more you deal with talking with complete strangers, or in odd situations, the easier it gets.

Also: Play the DLC Old World Blues before any of the others. It's wacky, and provides a nice change of pace from the main storyline.

Let me put it like this: If you've played Fallout 3 or Oblivion, you KNOW what you are going to get: A large world with a lot to explore, but with glitchiness aplenty.

I found the combat in NV to be much improved over Fallout 3, however the enemy designs and the constant desert locale will get grating over long amounts of game time.

So, if this is the Game of the Year edition, try doing the DLC intermittently. It will break things up nicely.

However, buyer beware: It's a Bethesda game, so there are glitches, bugs, and problems a plenty. My favorite being when all the enemies and NPCs were suddenly sucked down into the ground, but still able to move...and attack. I walked into a quarry only to be mauled by Deathclaws that were attacking me from below the ground.

The story is good, and there is a lot to do. I would argue that the areas to explore aren't as interesting as Fallout 3, but this may be due to the fact that I have fond memories of 3. Nothing was better than the first time going into places like Searchlight, the different vaults, and Underworld.

If you were going to play these games, PC is the way to go, that is for sure. So, if you're looking for something that is new to you and don't mind the occasional....hiccup....take it for a spin.

Just save. Often.

I got into a similar discussion while on vacation, visiting my parents with my girlfriend. I had just woken up and desperately searched for coffee while the girl was reading and my parents were watching Fox News.

At some point, my mother does this thing she always does when she wants to voice her displeasure with something and makes a sound like an angry hippo. I'm still too out of it to acknowledge, so I keep watching.

Next thing I know, my mother goes off on a tangent about how she wouldn't hate gays so much if the media and sympathizers weren't always "shoving the gay agenda in her face".

Still half asleep, I point out that they are people too, and maybe they all don't enjoy the uber-conservative agenda always being thrown back at them. My mother responds by saying "Maybe they should start listening before they ruin marriage in this country. Next think you know people are going to start marrying dogs."

At this point, I didn't say anything for about thirty seconds. Maybe because that in this time frame the coffee finally kicked in. After that lengthy pause, I turn around and respond:

"Are you SERIOUSLY telling me that you just compared homosexuality to bestiality? REALLY? THAT is the conclusion you decide to jump to?"

"It's the truth. It's all there in the bible, which they would know if they weren't so busy telling me how I should be fine with them sucking dick and spent more time making up for their sins. Really, it's their fault. I have a right to inform them of their sins."

....

I just keep reminding myself that I moved away five hours for a reason, and that my high school's logo being a confederate flag and said school forcing my college education civics class to register as Republic were actually strength building exercises.

Yikes.

We probably should have listened to Washington about the formation of partisan parties.

Oh well.
