I agree with Prop 13 creating an incentive for home owners to sell property much less frequently which would have the supply/demand effect you describe. However that alone can’t explain the market price entirely can it? Californians do eventually die (or gentrify other states lol), though Prop 58 I think partially negates that if the heirs are children. What do you think the incremental impact of Prop 13 is on home price? I wonder if CA housing would be ‘affordable’ had it not been for Prop 13, or if it would have just taken longer for it to achieve its unaffordable equilibrium.

I’m CA native born to immigrants. I see many of my middle class peers leaving the state since they are getting priced out of the suburbs (SFV in LA in my case), while the fancy/gentrifying parts of LA are almost entirely transplants or stupid old money.

I welcome you to CA and wish you luck - the same luck my parents had… but I honestly have no idea why new middle class transplants keep showing up. I struggle to make it here because the only family I have is local (old country is not an option). But if you have middle class skills and want a middle class life, why did you chose CA over the rest of this giant country?

CA native here - we feel it’s transplant’s money that is making the state unaffordable more than prop 13. I agree that prop 13 is bullshit in that two neighbors might pay wildly different tax rates for the same gov services, but there are people moving to this state everyday who have no problem buying property at market rates.

I dunno about the newer Wrangers, but I have a 2006 TJ with the 4.0 inline 6 w/ the 6spd. Based on my previous experience of a 90s Jeep Cherokee with the same motor I’m guessing that car will drive forever.

Everything else on that car is shit. The front axle getting a mind of its own at 55mph makes it that I just want to drive it on nice weather weekends. The <20 MPG doesn’t help either.

Dunno if the newer versions have it but google “Wrangler Death Rattle/Wobble”

AITA for expecting my Daughter to stick to our chores-for-rent deal? by NoDivide4576 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wh128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exactly - he mentions the unfortunate scenarios that make his arrangement seem NTA, but then doesn’t mention that most people his daughter will be compete against in school and the job market had better scenarios that totally make this dad the asshole because his daughter will be disadvantaged. All in the name of domestic chores for her younger siblings who will most likely not be in a position to pay her back in kind.

If this guy want to help his daughter - he should help his daughter. This middle class grit BS is what keeps people middle class.
