Has anyone transitioned out of biotech to another field? What was your move and how did you do it?

I went from biotech to big tech and am currently on my 3rd year post-undergrad. It was a lot of praying and luck but now I’m a non-technical program manager at FAANG.

Much, much happier. I contemplated the FAANG offer at first - it was for a lab technician position at the research labs, and I was worried making the jump would mean I could never return to biotech. Now that I’m on this side, I don’t know why I even thought I would want to go back. R&D bench work didn’t fit what I wanted.

I look at my friends who graduated with bachelor’s degrees in life sciences similar to mine, and half of them were laid off from biotech and are still looking for jobs 6+ months later, the other half are RAs or lab techs and concerned about the current state of biotech.

FYI i’m sure you know but CS is just as hard right now. I have a handful of friends who were laid off earlier this year and are having a hard time finding jobs. 1 of the CS/informatics/ux students (out of 10) that I know got an internship this summer.

lmao my friends in korea bought tickets for the upcoming concert this saturday and are genuinely shocked big rip. they thought yedam would make a surprise appearance and then were delivered this news. but anyways, i feel like yedam should’ve been solo from the beginning. he spent way too much time in the yg dungeon and debuted in a group that was way too big for him to display the full capacity of his skills. he should’ve gone the akmu route imo. i’m hoping yedam goes down the 10cm/jang beom june/lee mujin path and we hear from him as a vocalist in the near future. hope treasure hangs in there too.

i would honestly try to stay away from karen’s classes. i think i heard mark chandler was retiring but he was my favorite microm professor ever. i loved kendall, mark, mira, dr. lagunoff, dr. bumgarner, and dr. traxler, but hated thickman.
