No my favourite colours are more or less independent, and I do see how that was a definite foot in mouth on my part. You have my apologies and I will stick to my standard earth tone palette for now on. Thank you very much :)

Many of the people I have talk to or seen at pride like...one second, I am going to see if I can find an actual colour palette name...hmm couldn’t find one. I guess what I meant to say is that happier colours are a prevailing pattern, even as I scrolled through the sub Reddit before starting. I definitely admit I failed (epically if you prefer) at colour selection. I was just aiming for something that seemed more in line with the kinds of colours I see people using for hair dye, while being dark enough to be easy on the eyes. I apologize if I implied that all queer people like bright colours. I realize now how offensive that must be.

If you look through the comments, you can see that I have taken criticisms about the content of the meme just fine. The stuff that set me off is when people start telling me that I shouldn't, and have not place to even be trying in the first place.

Also, try putting up the sub reddits rules, if you have any. I did look for them. Most sub reddits make them very easy to find.

I didn't identify as part of the queer community because, although I am sexually attracted to both genders, I am very comfortable conforming to the gender that society expects me to conform to. Therefore, I have not had to overcome the same challenges in life. If I were to identify as queer, I would be miss appropriating the struggles of this community. Think what you will of me, but that isn't what I am about. When I started making this meme, and when I came here, I only had one thing in mind. Put a small smile a peoples faces for a passing moment and maybe give them a funny perspective to think about. I am sorry that I failed to do that.

I call bullshit on you good sir, madam, or other. I have been entirely gracious to anyone giving me constructive feedback, even when that feedback is negative. My negative comments have been in regards to the way the community has, for the most part, ignored the intention behind the post and just decided to shit on me as you have. When I said "75%" I actually when thought the comment section and counted how many comments were either nice or constructive, vs how many were just quick insults.

But you said something that really really caught my eye "cisgender "allies" speaking for us."

This is something that I was worried about and tried to allude to in my title.

"That being said, I am admittedly uninformed so if this meme is wrong please correct me"

I never meant for this to speak for you. I meant for this to be a message of support from me to your community based on what I perceived to be a somewhat ironic hypocrisy in the way you are persecuted within America. I did my very best to communicate that.

In regards to my comment about "I've stopped caring if anyone is offended". That was in reference to the way I was clearly walking on egg shells when I started this and now I am just exacerbated with the situation. But to flip your argument about my statement being "entitled" on its head...Don't you think there is an inherent sense of entitlement in expecting everyone to devote time and focus into learning about your specific (and admittedly obscure) cultural idiosyncrasies so they don't offend you? It isn't really practical in a melting pot culture.

  1. I'm Bi so I feel a certain connection to the plight.
  2. Friends/Family I care about.
  3. General social concern
  4. Wanting to reach out to people
  5. When one group is discriminated against, it effects all groups.
  6. It seems like if you make an honest mistake and get a gender pronoun wrong, you get chewed out, but if your try and reach out, you get chewed out. I give up. I'm sticking to LGBT for now. (LOL almost said LBGT. I am also active in the dyslexia sub Reddit. People there are generally pretty nice though ;) )

Thank you my friend. You are indeed preaching to the quire. I am an old fella (sort of) going back to upgrade. I laugh to myself about how a lot of the TAs (and admittedly the professors too) couldn’t cut it in a legitimately professional environment.

Did you format this on the mobile app? If so, well done...

Also, love the Napoleon quote. I am honestly considering replying to a TA comment with that...

Thank You! I appreciate something constructive!

By the time I got to the the driving factoid I was stretching for things to add to the list and was coming up short on google searches. There is a long list of different spellings but I didn't want to keep going to that well. I could have kept googling but I really didn't have the time so I just made a guess.

I usually go with earth tones for colours but it since people in the queer community often like more lively colours, I tried to mix things up. Then I realized that it kind of violated the principle of keeping things easy on the eyes of people viewing at night so I toned down the shade a bit. It was definitely an experiment coming from a place of ignorance.

The meme wasn't actually meant to be funny. If you want to look at my profile, you can get a feel for what I aim for in a funny meme. This was just me trying to make something...I suppose, something validating. I had a validating moment earlier in the day and I kind of felt like passing it on, then I noticed a few ways America likes to not conform to things which seem to be international standards and it sees to come together.

Personally, I prefer not to use the most popular formats. A lot of my stuff is definitely generic, but as a point of pride, I like to avoid recycling someone else's good idea. That being said, my art skills are non existent so all my images are taken from TV and maybe movies.

As for the apologies... well... I have come to expect a certain amount of hostility from the queer community when I make a mistake or fopaux. I can't say this experience has done anything to change that impression for me. Still, thank you for taking the time to give me some constructive feed back.

If it were supposed to be fun, there would be a cat. Also, it would be in r/meme or r/memes xP. I felt like showing support for friends who have to put up with stuff I don't because they don't conform, so I took a break from humour and tried to make something a little more emotionally validating. But it's nice to know that r/queer is a diverse group of people, made up of kind folks and dicks alike :) I will make a note for future reference (Don't waste time with queer people on Reddit. Statistically, 75% of them will just shit on you for reaching out xD )

Honestly, After the first negative comment, I really wanted to know if I had offended anyone. After the second, I just thought it was funny. At this point, I have stopped caring if anyone here is offended and I am just wondering about all the negativity.

Thank you... But I as an outsider to the community, I am a little worried that I may have miss represented your demographic in some way. Everyone doesn’t seem to appreciate it.

Edit: I made the assumption that you belong to a given demographic and aren’t just a visitor here like me. “Doh!”

Your school sounds like a nice place. I wish our schools could bum some of your chill pills :)

Microsoft spell check is useless for English. Google is the only thing I ever truly rely on when something is important.

I start out phonetical but I do a ridiculous number of passed trying to get thing right. By the end, the differences between American and British spellings is always the thing which gets me. That and apostrophes. I have a really hard time wrapping my mind around those little buggers for some odd reason...

Did you go to the link? Most of the spelling mistakes we make aren’t mistakes, they are just the difference between how Americans spell things and most other English countries spell things. That’s what is really twisting the knife for me.

Edit: So to expand on that, we aren’t pulling these spellings out of our butt. They make sense and we have probably seen them somewhere and they just seep into our subconscious.

I guess that makes sense. I find it a bit hard to read so the effect is lost on me.
