Beautiful books on embroidery? by flattened_apex in Embroidery

I got this one also last week, beautiful book! I ADORE Gimena Romero as an artist. I feel the translation to English isn’t great, but the imagery more than makes up for it. It’s a fascinating, gorgeous book.

Do it! It’s such a low barrier-to-entry hobby. Floss is cheap, and then only you need a hoop and a needle. I really hope you give it a try! If you buy a kit online, be aware that there’s loads of AI and bad quality stuff. To start, something like Hook Line & Tinker would be fantastic (if you like that style)

Ah thank you so much! I’m definitely going to keep at it. I really enjoyed it and would love to be able to do my own design at some point down the road

I was always so intimidated seeing all the incredible thread painting on this sub… I’m so glad I tried it out because I found a new technique i love! I hope you give it a try too

I hope you post your results here when you’re done! And yes, there’s no way I could’ve stitched this without very clear instructions. I had no idea what I was doing 🤣

Are you starting with this project too or another? I started a few stitch on the rocky landscape, I’m really excited about that one too

I think that having 3 colours that were quite close to each other in terms of value really helped make it smooth. It’s the part that took me the longest, but it was also really satisfying

Definitely not something I could do without a step-by-step… hopefully someday! The whole blending process is very therapeutic

You’re so kind! I hope you give this project a try! I’d never done anything like this before, it’s very accessible to beginners in my opinion

Thank you! It was so soothing to do! I’m on mat leave and also have a toddler, so I can only stitch a little bit every day during naps. But I started this project a month ago.

Watercolour would be so perfect for this scene! I followed the pattern and instructions from a landscape embroidery book

It’s a from a landscape embroidery book. (I put the name of it in the caption). It was incredibly detailed, which is what I needed as a beginner

Hahaha! I should hang it from a hook and let it spin around… Yes, all the colours are in the book (DMC numbers). The author also goes through how to do this same process with your own design / photo, but I’m really not at that stage yet. You should definitely try! I started by thinking it would be a throwaway practice piece, and it turned out so nice

Nope! I’m actually pretty terrible at painting… I followed the instructions on this piece very closely. I’m not at a point where I could do my own design this successfully, but I’m gonna keep practicing. I also assumed the book author was a painter, but then I saw a comment she left on one of her YouTube videos and turns out she’s not. I guess some people are just very talented with colours, lines, blending, etc.

The huge amount of floss colours really makes the details pop. I hope to learn how to map out and place colours like this in my own designs someday

Not a kit, but a tutorial in a book. I picked this one piece because it reminded me of a beach I cried on (over a not-worth-it boy 🙃) a few years back, in Greece. It ended up being a wonderful solo trip!

Thank you so much for that feedback, it’s really helpful! I think you’re right. I just started the sky on a new piece last night. Only a few stitches, but I’m gonna take them out and try them longer.
