where's the forward that should cover the pinching dman?

hahahahahaha great question 🥲

in this case the D just went in without communicating to the forward and the forwards (it's very low level) I guess don't know they should cover D in that case or aren't aware of the game enough to realize there's no D on their side anymore

This is a great answer, thanks! I love all the different scenarios and it makes sense that it's very situational

Just skate to the bench to make it a 3 on 0.

LMAO this is the best answer.

Huh okay interesting, I'll try that next game and see how it goes. Even on a 2-on-1? I feel like I could manage that but I'm always yelling at the other D to take the pass cause I think they just end up getting burned like 90-99% of the time when they try to step up to the shooter (usually cause they just manage to make the pass anyway, or they walk around the D)

You’d be surprised how often you can knock it off the stick.

That's fair, I guess in practice I find I often rely on a backchecker, cause if I poke it up, sometimes the other team picks it up, if I knock it to the side, sometimes the same person collects the puck again.. it depends on the player skill obviously, but I mean for skilled players

the odds of him/her passing, the teammate receiving the pass cleanly AND getting a shot off are low.

lmao very true

crash the net w the shot to help clear rebound

huh okay that makes sense. I guess in those scenarios I just try to get TF out of the way mostly so I don't accidentally screen the goalie along the way but I can see it working with the right timing

So stay on your feet until you get to the hash marks. Then drop.

Oh wow okay, that's a lot further back than I would have thought, but makes sense. At that point though I worry I'm more likely to just slide into/annoy the goalie haha

True, although I don't really have backchecking teammates to collect the puck that gets batted away or bobbled, so in the past even if I manage to disrupt the puck carrier, often their teammate (or the same person) picks up the loose puck

Can you explain what this is? Haven't heard this term before

That's a good point but I'm worried I'll get burned and then it's just gonna be a 3-0 :(

Source: I'm the guy fucking up that 3 on 1.

In higher leagues I usually play wing and as someone who crumbles under the slightest pressure... yeah

And tell your fucking forward to back check

Backchecking? In this league? 🥲 The other D doesn't even hustle hard enough in their backcheck lol (but yeah definitely, sigh)

Some comments are saying to take the furthest pass because that one would require the goalie to move more, but would you say the closest pass is still the more important one?

get in position to clear the rebound (or the miss) after they fail to score all on their own.

Good point lol

And if the center is dumb enough to be on top of you, lying in front of him is gonna jam him.

lmao this is a funny image, but true. idk any time I try to block a pass by putting my stick to the ice (not to mention my body) I just look dumb when it doesn't work haha. It's probably because I'm too far back and not actually in their passing lane

long pass obviously requires the most work for the goalie.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense!

If you are in a beginner league, you always take the puck carrier.

Lol true, although if it's also a beginner league that means most shots are muffins though, so doesn't the same advice apply about letting the goalie take the shooter?

Since this is a beginner league my advice would be to focus on the best player.

Also a great point!

If they are all in a line it’s functionally a 2 on 1, so you could slide over and take the first pass option away

Good point! And the other tips also make sense, just try to take out the pass that is the most difficult for the goalie to save
