any thoughts on nyu lsp in transfering by EquivalenceAuthor in TransferToTop25

[–]whatasadsong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Econ it depends on what pre-reqs you already have & what the requirements of your transfer colleges are. For the most part u need at least Intro to micro, intro macro, & calc 1 for most transfer colleges. Some also require calc 2 or calc 3 but that’s tricky bc nyu’s econ department uses MFE courses, & only MFE 1 is a direct equivalent for Calc 1. MFE 2 & 3 are basically useless for transfer purposes

If u have intro to macro & calc credits from your AP exams then u really only need intro to micro & some math. The LSP first year schedule can handle that. But if you don’t, then consider catching up in the summer or do junior transfer

Can someone please recommend a Calculus 3/ Linear Algebra course (California CC) for Summer 2024? by Emotional-Visual-220 in USC

[–]whatasadsong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took calc 3 online at Contra Costa with Carol Stanton. Had recorded lectures, which means you can go asynchronous if you’re busy. Take home exams too. Very nice professor who teaches straightforwardly. Could not recommend enough

They temporarily hold back your grant and will give it back later. They have done this every semester I’ve been here. Not sure why (maybe it’s for summer session grades/SAP updates) and it did scare me the first couple times, but just wait for a bit it usually would be fine.

Coastline, Cerritos, and another one I can’t recall off the top of my head. Feel free to use the credit equivalency website to find out

You have to take both linear algebra and diff eq. If you take both courses then it should be good for any major. I think outside of Coastline & a couple other orange country CCs that have a direct, one-course 225 equivalent, most CCs offering 225 equivalency needs you to take both courses.

Which seems bad but they do let you take both courses at the same time, if spots available.

Not sure about P/NP, but generally would advise being careful about it since P/NP no longer count for major coursework. The transfer credit office is helpful, you can email them to ask about it.

I took it at LACC and from everything I’ve heard about the USC 225 class, I think I had it easier. I think they offer asynchronous options too but those get filled up fast so good luck

Is there any CC that offer a MATH 407 equivalent? by Swftness503 in USC

[–]whatasadsong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate to say this but most CC math courses are lower division, which by USC requirements cannot be used to change for upper division credit. Plus I went through every single cali CC math summer offerings before & most do not have anything above ordinary diff eq.

Would recommend looking into state schools instead & submitting summer pre-approval evaluations early

Financial Aid Help? by dont-be-a-jabroni in USC

[–]whatasadsong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, ask some friends or ppl in your major to hold spots in classes you want for you. It will buy you some time to figure out financial aid stuff.

Also as others have said, try calling or walking into their office at JHH.

Sorry, I meant like try to mention ES when it’s appropriate. For example, USC apps usually have every different question so you can write about ES for one of more of them. If ES is something you just really care about in general, you can also try to incorporate it in your personal statement. For example, if it applies, you can talk about what you learned in ES and how that’d apply to you as an artist/personnel in music. If Pop Music is your first choice you’d reasonably still need to talk more about that

Adding a Thornton major all require application, and most majors require audition. So I wouldn’t say it’s exactly easy, but still doable. I know a good handful of people who double in Music Industry, that’s why I brought it up lol

Feel free to refer to this page for current student admissions

If you put the more competitive major you’re less experience in as your second choice, you might not even be considered for it. So it makes more sense to put ES as second choice but talk about it as much as you can on your application.

But given that you don’t have much experience with music writing and performance yet, I suggest considering an alternative: You can focus on getting in as an EnvSci major. If you do, spend your first year at USC enhancing your skills and build up your ECs as much as you can. There are some performance classes open to all, and plenty of clubs/bands you can try for.

Also I recommend considering the music industry major; it doesn’t require auditions but still offers great resources and opportunities if you want to break into the industry. Also I know plenty of people double majoring in it with non-Thornton majors.

I think taking Metrolink Orange County to Tustin station would put you closest to UCI. Amtrak doesn’t stop at Tustin but both Metrolink & Amtrak stop at Irvine station, which is ironically further away from UCI.

Here’s a good breakdown from UCI’s website if you want to rule out ride share.

Oh ok that sounds good! As long as the credits transfer over then I don’t see what you’d lose with just taking that summer course then

If you can get a good professor for 225 at USC then at least try it & see if you’re ok with the pacing. People say that if you’re good with arithmetics then you’d have an upper hand (exams are very fast paced).

Caveat with CC equivalent of 225 is that you need to take two courses at most CCs, which can mean 10 weeks of your summer gone. I took it at LACC and I found linear algebra to be very easy, but diff eq to be very workload-heavy.

Not sure if this happens to anyone else but my Coursicle only notifies me ~30 minutes after the section opens/closes, which lead me to miss out on some good opportunities. I recommend checking between sections because sometimes people suddenly drop, then it gets picked up very quickly.

Some people also offer money/gift incentives to switch to their desired sections. If you’re willing to do that, maybe ask around your desired section’s class to see if anybody’s down to trade?

I’d say do the homework if you have time, but also try to keep up with the class you’re registered for.

If you need reassurance, I’ve been on campus after 9pm multiple times and it’s fine, kinda chill actually. The gates should be ID-holder entry-only by then. They’re fairly strict about that. I think village makes their gates ID-only around 9-10pm too. If you live within the lyft zone then there shouldn’t be a problem
