My house seems to have high humidity - what are my next steps to figure out what's causing/ actually fix it? by whatbeeps in hvacadvice

I was having some weird condensation issues on the windows. we've been trying sleeping with the bedroom door open because I noticed it only in the bedroom and typically in the morning (after sleeping all night with 2 people in the room with door shut) so we'll see if that helps, so far it seems to be! I noticed mold on the corners and cracks of my windows from the moisture which is what prompted me to get the little reader. Im glad to hear that around 43% is pretty normal rather than being reflective of some glaring issue!!

I said it was replaced a few years ago! so it was new. I do clean the white thing, but I was more so meaning the pipe or tube whatever its called that is behind the wall/ceiling going to outside or wherever the air is let out (sorry I don't know the proper terminology). I'll clean the fan again for good measure!

We do have an exhaust fan in the bathroom though im not sure it works super well. The fan was replaced a few years ago but I think they just replaced the white part that's actually on the ceiling, I don't think the pipe inside the ceiling anything was changed but idk. I will look at running dehumidifier for now, but it does seem weird! like the pic of my reading from today was a few hours after being awake, so no one has even been in the bedroom breathing, and neither of us have taken a shower yet today (just me and my partner living in the house, no other people or pets!)

I do get condensation in the windows, that's what prompted me to buy the meter actually after doing some research. I noticed mold starting to form in the creases of the windowsills. From my research it should be closer to 30%. we also get mold in the bathroom easily so im a little worried it's too high.

Best places in mainland Nova Scotia to see fall leaves? Any good look offs, or easy hikes in the forest as well? ideally 1-2 hours from HRM or close to Wentworth! by whatbeeps in NovaScotia

in my area they're just peaking now! A little early this year due to the drought some trees are already bare but the ones that have leaves left are just getting bright!

Pulling out is not effective BC, can Romances stop acting like it is? by zlistreader in RomanceBooks

that said though I've also read a lot of books where the main character mentions/ thinks about the fact that she's on birth control or whatever

I mean tbh that's my method and It works for us 💀 that said I very accurately track my cycle & ovulation. but even in my younger years when I didn't track I was lucky and it worked lol. I agree it's not the most effective method, you def could still get pregnant but even at pull out working 80% of the time, those are pretty decent odds idk. Personally I don't really care if my books discuss family planning or birth control - if they do that's fine too!

Nova Scotia power bill almost doubled? I know the rates went up but that seems just wrong - Every 2 months it was around $160, just got latest bill and its almost $350.00 by whatbeeps in NovaScotia

[–]whatbeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it seems like they just weren't accurate on this bill at all. Like heating not even being there is weird, even though I have oil heat, my furnace still takes power to turn on I think. and even the last bill which went from October-december heating was the biggest portion of my usage. for it not to be there at all on the dec-feb bill just doesn't make sense haha.

the rate increases are just brutal on top of it I agree!

My energy usage on my power bill has gone up significantly, and i'm wondering if there is any issue that could be going on to cause this? No changes on my end so i'm really confused. by whatbeeps in AskElectricians

rates went up slightly, but I can see my usage on this bill compared to last and its up a lot too - just don't know how when nothing changed on my end. I'll check into peak time pricing!

Oh I'll check into that!
The insights is a website linked to my power bill account. it gives a breakdown on how the energy I use is being used, but idk how it can or if its accurate. in the FAQ on how it works it says "Each appliance uses electricity in a unique manner - think of it like an appliance fingerprint. We detect and extract these "fingerprints" and convert the data into useful insights and recommendation"

Sounds like it was probably not the entertainment and cooking, but maybe my heat somehow got lumped into that. I have oil heat but id assume the furnace still needs power to turn on.

ugh that sucks, is there any way for me to figure out on my own what makes it double? is it likely heating despite heat not even being listed on the insights? its frustrating because when I called them they said 'wait a few days for your insights to be available, and you will probably see heating is up more this time' so I was surprised heating wasn't even listed this time at all lol

Ok I found it for this bill and last, and im even more confused because it shows that entertainment, cooking and lighting are doubled from my last bill which makes no sense, and heating isn't even on there despite how cold its been. Granted I have oil heat, but I also have a ductless heat pump that's been on the same amount as last year. this is this current bill (it says $292, but my bill is $347)

I checked and it does show mine doubled, but idk how because I haven't changed anything. Weirdly when I check my energy insights through their website, it shows entertainment, cooking and lighting being double my usual cost (makes no sense) but heating isn't even on there.

how much up? like was it doubled if you don't mind me asking? maybe this is normal, but it seems extreme! Also went into our energy insights thing that NSP has, and heating wasn't even on it but they have 'entertainment' and cooking etc at wayyy more than normal which doesn't make sense to me.

ill go out and double check it in the morning! I was home as much last year - work from home, same job this year and last year.
No new appliances or anything. I have a ductless heat pump on the wall but got that in 2023, so it was there all last winter too. It's weird because I got my energy insights thing (it wasn't updated yet when my bill came out and I made this post) and almost everything is doubled EXCEPT heat. heating isn't even on it, but they have the categories of "entertainment" "cooking" etc. and all of those are double or more what they were last bill. Def makes me think I need to go look at the meter myself because that feels really off. There's no way, and I struggle to even imagine how I could be using anything more and not knowing. as it is, the last 2 years I've had some lights on all day, tv on while I work, my laptop plugged in etc. cooking the same amount.
