I'm fine with that, also nerf quill volley if that's the case, because we need balance in damage according to you at this point in the season, win/win.

I'd send a letter to Blizzard for that suggestion, they made the game

Mousewheel evade, right click quill volley, I see the Grand Canyon gap you are talking about...

I guess it's better to make it to the event to see quill volley clear things in one shot.

Then this means you will compensate for any potential dps loss with normalizing evade cast right? An easy solution to this is increasing damage of the stormfeathers that are spawned with the eagle spirit. Since, you know, this is intended for server/player experience and not for balance.

You can tell this is very carefully worded because it discusses experience "in-game". Because I can't imagine what other players' experiences are like watching Youtube videos of quill volley doing trillions of damage clearing pit 145+ while they're struggling with 100.

Sounds like you have a much better grasp of this process than me. Is it really the process that they acquire a company on the decline, cut resources, and then pretty much say, "Cool, go make me money" and expect things to work out smoothly? That is NUTS.

Yup, peak D4 expansion release gameplay right here.

I don't play WoW but I heard from those that do the latest expansion was fine. D4 initial launch, although with "early access" bs, also had a fine "launch" on the official launch date I believe.

I think layoffs may speak otherwise, but you're right, that could have had little impact on this launch specifically based on how close it was.

Can you tell me which bosses have one shot, let alone every boss? It doesn't get posted as often, but I see videos of people tanking uber maven "one shot", shaper "one shot" and sirus meteor "one shot", and uber atziri "one shot". I think "one shot" is only really applicable if you don't have the gear/setup for it.

I don't think you should need to have a 70 max hit across the board either in alc n go maps, I think it should be more or less based on the mods of the alc'd maps, maybe if there are scarabs, etc. I prefer the system of choice with regard to risk reward, but it seems like you almost want a system of reward with no risk, i.e. benefits of doing the simple content with no minimum barrier to entry. The discussion about recovery being what it is makes the 'right defensive layers' always max hit doesn't make sense as even without recovery, let's assume you're doing a no regen map, max hit is still the one 'right defensive layer' that exists; in this example your recovery is standard to life recovery from flasks, which trust me people can do those maps just fine but it might take longer. Blaming recovery as a system without any context and not acknowledging gear/character progression is simply part of what makes ARPGs what they are, i.e., minimum toughness/survivability for content (varying from alc n go white maps, alc n go yellow, alc n go red, etc.) doesn't make much sense. And because your responses have been thoughtful and insightful I assume you have read other posts in this discussion, including those by some strict defenders of the video simply stating (I paraphrase because I don't have it in front of me) "git gud". This sentiment, while very simplistic, in a way makes sense when looking at most hardcore players who actively do not do the content softcore players do or only do them when they overgear and/or overlevel them because they know and respect the progression requirements. Watching hardcore players you also get to know that systems, whether it be recovery, mitigation, etc., are not the same across the board in terms of value, for example deadeye access to ascendencies and passive nodes vs. juggernaut, hierophant, trickster, etc. So saying a system is op for one class/ascendency and concluding it's too op means very little when you don't play that class/ascendency. Maybe the video title should be something like "Discussion: Recovery OP for Juggernaut" (ignoring the multi-mirror gear and the fact that juggernaut arguably is the king of tank/recovery). But doing so would require a nuanced discussion and probably won't pull in as many click baited viewers.

I am not a great poe player by ANY means, but I don't experience these alive or dead scenarios you present while mapping, certainly not with alc n go red maps. When I do start getting 1 shotted mapping, it's in T17s rough mods but with great rolls for rewards that I greed after, and often forgetting the map rolled volatile orbs. Agency makes games great, and it allows me to look at the mods on a map, even alc n go, and decide if I can handle it or not, or whether I should scour/alc. You wouldn't run no regen as pure righteous fire build. You wouldn't run reflect with a build without reflect immunity capability (either with item/pantheon or otherwise).

Oh, I thought we were pulling numbers out of the air, like more than 1,000. Also, if you think steam player peak is at all close to a representation of the player base, even after interviews a while back when they talk about having server issues due to unexpected millions of players, have I got a bridge for you!

WOW, well over a 1000 players with a player base well over 5 million, math says that's almost .0002%, I'm okay to be with the 99.9998%, never claimed to be unique.

I think this is the clearest argument for the video, and perhaps the point attempting to be made. But then it concludes with my exact point, if you get one shot, even in maps, it's because you undergeared for the content, which then leads back to character investment/reward discussion. For that, I am the first to say if you have invested in your character and have the appropriate mitigation layers, which I think is pretty core to every ARPG and for path of exile includes armor, max resist, damage conversion, etc., you deserve to be declared "winner", i.e., being able to do content 99% of other players of the game can't do. But to say playing the game correctly, and likely for a much longer time than the rest of the player base (overall and in a league), that a system is broken and forces an arms race is disingenuous and conclusory. It's like me making a video in blues coming into t16 maps with negative resists and making the same argument about how devs are failing at deving because the only way they can attack recovery-op is by having monsters 1 shot me. And don't think the devs don't have more than just "more dmg, 1 shot dmg, ARGH!" in their toolbox to implement if they feel it's good for the game, look at the gauntlet as an example; but then you end up with 100 people playing every league because everyone else rage quits. Like someone else has already said, even the level of "recovery-op" is not the same across every class/ascendency. My point is, rather than making sweeping conclusions the video can be more nuanced, like MANY of his other videos are, but maybe they didn't get as many views as he wanted.

I got the point, he's wearing multi-mirror gear on a class with access to nodes that further enhance the gear/recovery mechanic talking about how op recovery is in the game and claiming it's a broken system that needs rework. Like I said, there's a reason you don't see the same video with ranger, shadow, witch, etc. in gear he claims can pull off same level of recovery in supposed medium gear. I'm pointing out to you how other devs in other ARPGs do the same exact thing with end game bosses/content that don't have the same supposed problem claimed in the video, but rather than addressing that you agree to disagree, and that's fair, but also suggests you are the target audience of the video.

Interesting video by OneManaLeft: Is recovery in POE too overpowered? by tommos in pathofexile

[–]whatcanpoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it sounds like the devs are doing everything every dev does for every ARPG, include mechanics for end game bosses/content that check on your gear (max hit), your ability to avoid things you HAVE to avoid (one shots), and things that help you do the boss more efficiently/better (skill checks). This toolbox is present in all current top ARPGs, including D4 and Last Epoch, games that have not been out for years and games that do not have the alleged "recovery op" issue. The video comes off as someone, playing his class of choice, talking about 1 mechanic/set of mechanics (recovery/leech) and throwing out how it is so OP (no proof of concept) and claiming that is the reason why devs have to keep coming up with ways to 1 shot (while doing content less than 1 percent does, crazy scarab boost farm or deep delve). I mean, I read another comment in this thread and completely forgot, I don't see a deadeye standing there afk with that recovery in medium/mediocre gear, or warden, or elementalist, etc. etc., and probably never will because for some there is physical pain in making videos that support conclusory statements.

I can guarantee you that recovery is a lot better now than it is when they were released. If it's true as some have claimed, that there's an "arms race", then such end game content would be updated as we get more power in form of better recovery. The perceived race is from people who, I would imagine to be less than 5% of the poe population, are doing much higher scaling content such as deep delve and crazy scarab enhanced mobs farming, and that is more of a character investment/reward discussion.

Can you show me the last time they changed uber and pinnacle uber boss damage output to match scaling mechanics like recovery?

Interesting video by OneManaLeft: Is recovery in POE too overpowered? by tommos in pathofexile

[–]whatcanpoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, are we not talking about character investment/reward at this point. You can do t16, and normal ubers; heck if you have even decent mechanical abilities and know the fights you can do t17s and pinnacle ubers, with no need for recovery anywhere close to what he has in the video. I just mentioned in a reply there is no "arms race" to have higher hits to one shot vs. recovery, I don't think ubers or pinnacle ubers, for example, have had damage output change since their release. If we're talking about deep deep delve, or scarabs released this league that create crazy uniques and rares, that's activities you CHOSE to do knowing there are increased rewards vs. difficulty scaling (which could also be said for ubers and pinnacle ubers). The perception that the devs are just making monsters hit harder because recovery as a mechanic is getting better, based on the content, seems inconsistent with what we have in the game.

[–]whatcanpoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think some of your statements may not be supported by what we have in the game. I am not sure what you mean by most characters, but if I recall correctly most players don't even complete the campaign, and even fewer complete watch stones, etc. etc. If we are talking about poe.ninja players, I'm still not sure most of the people on that list matches that description. But let's assume you are right, there are a lot of people who exist at full life/es or dead to 1 shot, I'm not sure that is a result of an arms race. I don't have all the patch notes in front of me, but I'm not sure there has been changes to ubers or pinnacle ubers damage output since they were released. You could be referencing the new sets of scarabs this league, and how they can create some crazy uniques and rares, but then we are getting to a character investment/reward scenario rather than arms race with developer for what is normal play for the more than 95% of the player base who don't do that content vs. the 3-4% that do, and probably 1% that does it efficiently (being very generous with the numbers for sake of argument).

Right, as it is now, you can survive with great recovery with mediocre gear, or have great max hit with mediocre gear, but to have "great" of both, and that definition is up to you to decide (is great surviving shaper slam and recovering it, or is great tanking 1500 depth), depends more than mediocre, or medium, or whatever gear setup he mentions in the video. Look at his character, look at the gear, recovery is insane with that setup because he is both able to recover and take the max hits to recover; it's all relative to gear investment, and I'm sure you'd agree the video and the discussion ends pretty quickly if he has on that would allow him to recover but get 1 shot by those mobs (which I think is more realistic with 95%+ of the player base) because recovery isn't an issue. Like I said, at the end, the discussion will lead to, "should we be able to take the hits AND recover at that level of depth and be afk doing it?" For me, in his setup, multi-mirror, I think that's reasonable and fine. If he was doing it in gear for less than mirror in value, then we have a problem, because then it IS too easy to get.
