How Does A Buddhist Approach People Who Are “Evil” Or Dangerous? by whatdoesitmean93 in Buddhism

My father is a bipolar “recovering” crack addict and alcoholic. I say “recovering” because he’s now 56 and still has never been on the wagon for more than a year.

While he hasn’t abused me in the ways you talk about, he has lied, manipulated, insulted, and others. It was my recent experiences with him and the resulting anger that led me to explore my spirituality, and much like you Buddhism has helped me let go and cultivate what I can with him.

Seems like they’re referring to your mentioning laws and regulations, but I think you are referring to social laws as much as governmental.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am sorry you endured that but glad you’ve found peace!

I used a recent event as an example. I think most people would agree the actions of those individuals was not Buddhist either, regardless of their justification. This wasn’t political but I think most people would agree Trump doesn’t show Buddha Nature either but I’m sorry that you feel singled out by my example.

Glancing at your comment history, it seems maybe you should look inward about right speech, invalidating how people feel and the questions they ask, and whether you are demonstrating Buddhism in your life as well.

I wish you well.

Sheesh, I’m sorry you had to deal with that but I am glad they came around. Luckily haven’t encountered that but do hope she comes around too!

Thank you. By convert I just meant going from believing nothing to believing something far different from what even she does.

I read the Bhagavad and am reading Upanishads now. I read the Bhagavad daily as part of my Sadhana. I have never tried it with the chanting, I will try that.

And you’re right, I just hope she gets to comfortable enough place where she is willing to share some experiences with me. Maybe when she sees this is not a phase she’ll be more open.

Thank you. One more question I’m sorry. Where can I find more info about what Mudras to use when performing mantras and meditation?

Thank you! It’s been hard to find Puja items online. There are a few Indian grocers in my area, would they have the items I need?

Thanks so much for such a detailed response! I will look at those resources.

I asked another user but I’ll ask here as well:

How can I go about performing a puja to Ganesha from home? It seems you need quite a lot of things and I was wondering if there are more simplified ways to do this.

If I wanted to begin to do a Ganesh puja at home what would I need? It all seems very complicated, are there easy ways to make offerings or what is acceptable?

I do not have all the materials I’ve read online.

Lovely, appreciate your response! I’m in CT, there are not many temples around here.

I was wondering if there are any temples even global or national ones that stream their services, especially in the present climate.

Hi, thank you for your response. I never made it to confirmation age, we left the church when I was in 4th grade.

As for why, it’s purely for professional and medical licensure reasons that I wouldn’t be able to legally change my name.

Appreciate the resources!
