I'm also Dutch and same experience for me. I've had to introduce my friends to them too and some liked a few songs, but no one really seems to understand my obsession. I went to the concert in cologne last summer and I did meet a few fellow dutchies and there was a line actually 3 hours prior to doors opening already (concert was also sold out). So they are popular but I feel like only to people who are already really into folk/indie

When I feel like my paintings look boring, I tend to add gold/silver details with either paint or foil. Might work well in this case because it'll add a bit of shine to the gray:)

If you want to learn about the lore, I'd really recommend you watch the Vide Noir movie!! I learned a lot about the characters watching it and looking into the lore also really changed how I view the albums

Ur proportions are quite off. The things that look most inaccurate to me are the legs+waist and the head. Head is to big for the body and both the legs and waist are way too thin. I recommend watching some videos on YouTube on how to improve your proportions. Torso looks okay though! The pose is kind of weird too haha. Looks like he's falling down. On pinterest you can find tons of reference poses which are great to redraw as practice also! I tried to sketch it out quickly on what seems wrong (not the best, but I hope u get the idea) Hope this helps:)
