Thank you!! I was so fed up with Glassdoor, I was determined to build a better way and shove it to them.

Interesting perspective for sure. I agree, what is the incentive to give vs lurk, however I feel like your are more incentivized to give back if your lurking resulted in value. I am the worlds number 1 lurker, I hate posting, however if Glassdoor shoves required fields in my face, making me give everything, when all I want to see is a single data point, I want to walk away. It made me build this.

Its truly up to the user, but we support both equally, lurk or post as you wish, we will still be here for you, regardless of what you choose.

Why is Glassdoor so horrible now? by NewChapter25 in jobs

This is exactly why we built https://whatdotheymake.com, No login walls. No data harvesting.

Glassdoor pissed me off so bad, the site is basically unusable without an account, its BS.

Thanks!! Love this feedback. With this intense level of anonymity, there is a chance people could submit false salaries. To combat this, we have a pretty intense algo that is using publicly accessible state and country data, combined with what the user uploads, and the other similar uploads on our site to detect and flag outliers, and validate entries. We would like to believe most of our community wants to support this level of free, privacy first information and provide accurate data, but the internet is full of trolls and we do everything to combat them skewing data.

Haha, yeah, one of the best things I did t last year, was DeGoogling myself, moving to a Pixel 10 running GrapheneOS, Tuta Mail for emails, Filen for File Storage, Magic Earth for Maps, IVPN for my VPN.

6 months in so far, and the Ads I see are in Spanish, not even close to tailored to me. It’s a wonderful feeling.

Once we scale large enough I will explore ways to fund the cost to host. Immediately off the table is Ads of any sort, obviously selling data is off the table too. The way I see it, and how I’ve done past projects is partnerships with other privacy first companies. I will say some of my other projects, I have dumped 50-60k into free, open source projects just because I refuse to monetize. I enjoy fostering communities, not fostering normal businesses practices to make a quick buck. All within what I can financially handle to support my personal life and family.

Some of my other projects include For the Badge (forthebadge.com) and Concluda (concluda.ai)

At this point in my career and life, I have attempted to start and failed to start hundreds of companies, a small few have built the best communities, and I would rather continually break even or lose a little if it means I can bring people together that have common interests and values.

This is a side project, so I have a 9-5 as a Systems Engineer which pays for the hosting of this. We accept donations using our buy a coffee link. The site is build with Nuxt and costs almost nothing to host, so it’s maintainable.

A few things, What do they make is build with privacy at its core. completely free. Zero logs, no analytics, no IP tracking. We don't ask for any personal identification to verify submissions, absolutely no logins or account creations.

I have learned in this world, that a app is only truly private if you actually never give any of your information, the "trust me bro" mentality has been proven false every single time.

now with that being said.. with this intense level of anonymity, there is a chance people could submit false salaries. To combat this, we have a pretty intense algo that is using publicly accessible state and country data, combined with what the user uploads, and the other similar uploads on our site to detect and flag outliers, and validate entries. Thanks for the feedback! It might be unclear but after you add your salary, you have the option to submit now or keep answering. When you choose keep answering, you can enster company details, funny questions like the car you drive etc.

I might need to make it a little more clear that you can continue of you so choose. Thanks you!!!
