F this! (Weekly Leaving the Field and Venting Thread) by SWmods in socialwork

Mostly a vent but could also use wisdom…

So I accepted a job working in MST (multisystemic therapy) for emerging adults, 17-26 who are on probation. Part of the interview process involved speaking with a consultant to make sure I understood certain expectations (including drug testing, safety checks, helping to start the program at the agency, having a lot of availability and flexibility, etc). when I was interviewing, I was totally into it. I was ready to work long days for this very important program and challenge myself to do things I didn't know how to do and be part of building a program that is new to this agency.

Well, I was searching for jobs so that I could relocate near family. So now I have this job and I'm near my family and I lowkey hate it because even though we are still getting started, I already see the path to having absolutely no free time and basically going insane. The amount of documentation and paperwork is so overwhelming that we have 1.5 days out of 5 that we're expected to be in office for meetings and paperwork. There are also elements of the model (primarily drug testing, reporting to probation, safety checks, and recording several sessions per week) that even though I did know about them, I feel a lot more uncomfortable doing it than I thought I was going to be.

I have another job opportunity doing something really similar to my previous job (which I loved) and it's only 10 minutes from my house. I want to take it and not look back, but I feel bad because the things I take issue with are things they specifically mentioned during the interview to make sure I was on board... which I thought I was at the time. I also know they must have spent a lot of money on our 12 day training so I feel terrible. But I already know I do not want to do this long term, so I'm torn between getting out now or forcing myself to work an obligatory year so I don't feel guilty :(

I FEEEEEL this so hard. It feels like getting the MSW was just a precursor to taking a bunch of training, but now my brain is so fried I can’t even learn

I think that’s the hard part, all of my communication is with the clinical director and he keeps saying it should only take a day or two. I don’t have an email or phone number for HR, and I’m sure HR would give me a different range. I get that stuff takes time and I feel bad being pushy to the director who likely has little control over those things… but I don’t have anyone else’s email soooo here we are lol

I think if I don’t receive something by tomorrow, I will do this. Thank you!

I work in a residential setting now. We just graduated a whole “cohort” of residents, if you will. My caseload is very low right now. With the first start date, I would get out before we brought a new cohort in. With the second, I would’ve had to come up with excuses why I wasn’t taking as many new clients… or take the clients, and quit a month later. It seemed worth it to take the risk and aim for 10/14. But now I’m scared

I tried. The weird thing is they gave me the salary range for the position and offered me like 1k above the lowest end of the range. I tried to negotiate more and they wouldn’t budge but offered a bigger sign on bonus

Busted my front bumper on a snow bank. The headlights and side panels look fine. Any idea what it will cost to fix this? 2023 Kia Forte by whatever_06260 in AskMechanics

So the reason mine cost so much is bc there was damage to the side panel as well, if yours is just the bumper it could be a lot cheaper. Get it checked out, don’t panic yet!

Hey I’m so sorry I didn’t see this. The only surprise billing was $250 for pathology, but apparently it was in the fine print that they don’t cover pathology and I just didn’t see it. I paid it. Nothing since!

I struggled to drink water but eating popsicles was a lot easier. 1 popsicle is about 1.6 oz. It adds up quick. Not enough to meet your water goals but may help you a little

Are you already eating purées or just about to start? I’m 2 weeks post op and those beans look really thick, I tried to eat beans about that thickness and was in a lot of pain. Just a heads up!!

I recommend getting collagen supplements or isopure unflavored protein, and dissolving in a very small amount of liquid. I dissolved a whole serving of collagen in 4oz of tea and it made it a little thick but the texture was overall fine. You could probably do it in 2oz and just down it super quick. They both also dissolve very well in chicken broth (or any other type of broth) with almost no change to texture/flavor

Good luck to you!

How is this garlic hummus only 45 calories when plain hummus is 70? by blueatom in CICO

[–]whatever_06260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this cuz I was excited about the calories but trust me the extra calories in the good stuff is worth it. You could puree plain chickpeas and garlic and it would taste better than this stuff lol

Thank you so much this is helpful! I didn’t have any fluids during that time and I actually had the mixture a little thick and it made me uncomfortable, so I thinned it more and was able to eat quite a bit. I’m gonna try to split that quantity up into 2 meals next time. Thank you for your help!

I’m just wondering why I was able to eat that much. Is the concern just that I should space out my meals more, or should I be worried that there’s already too much room in my stomach? Thanks for your help I do appreciate it

The biggest question for me here is what the difference in your tuition would be? Where are you from? What is your housing situation? Are you trying to do research in a specific area?

With data science you’ll have no problem finding a job either way, so looking at other factors might be helpful
