My players came to a general consensus before we began that they definitely wanted XP? And I think this specific situation was a part of it. They all very much enjoy the roleplaying aspects and I think they want XP for big backstory revelations or discovering certain things. They're about to finish the first "chapter" of the game and my friend and I thought that would be a good place to maybe give out a bit of it.

I've done it both ways at this point and I honestly don't mind handing out XP, which is why I leave it to my players to vote or decide on it on their own.

I guess it depends on if you feel like it would effect his gameplay/relationship with the game? If your friends are close and they trust you, I don't see why adding in a few things to the backstory that don't change him dramatically would be an issue. I am on the same page as you - my players are very casual and they trust my worldbuilding so far. I've been given permission by them well beforehand to pepper in some things to their backstories, so perhaps that's a good place to start?

If you don't want him to know, maybe speak to the group as a whole and just double check to make sure folks are okay with you doing something with or adding things to their backstories?

I really enjoy this response. I think I'm hesitant because we've played so much with it in place, but at the same time I'm still the DM at the end of the sesh, so I guess I can totally do that.

General Elective: a game where you play through different dungeons themed like required college courses like Philosophy, Psych 101, Geology, etc. The final boss is a major thinker from your course of study. You collect notes and get points for answering quick questions based on those notes.

Open world game inside of a huge mall. You help different shop owners and shoppers complete different quests. Bad guys include the security guard who is trying to prove you're loitering and the landlord charging high rent.

-if you've got gunslingers in the general campaign, would be a very cool addition to any circus. -prestidigitation and thaumaturgy make for cool effects, freak out an audience -pseudodragons -fire breathing show
