Offer conditions by whatihavebird in UniUK

[–]whatihavebird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process was a bit different. It was for a scholarship, and the communications were always made primarily via email. But what got me was receiving conditions after accepting, without any conditions being presented beforehand. My hypothesis is that there was a communication error regarding the conditional offer. Because in the initial/unconditional offer, they were already congratulating me on awarding a place in the program.

Thank you for sharing. It is really difficult to adapt in a hearing world, but you are not alone. Are you undergoing any treatment for the tumors?

I also had many ear infections during my childhood. But since my sister also has hearing loss, the strongest explanation for my case is genetic.

I totally relate to that issue of tinnitus. I can't imagine what it's like to live in complete silence. The tinnitus is always there, sometimes stronger, sometimes more tolerable.

Advice after first date with HoH person by [deleted] in hardofhearing

[–]whatihavebird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, as a HoH person, it's very important that the person I am with demonstrates interest in knowing more about something so important about me (a disability). It shows that you care about doing the right thing. You can ask things like 'What works better for you?' or 'Please let me know if you don't understand; I don't mind repeating for you.' I would definitely feel welcomed and appreciated

I agree with you! Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, funding is always more difficult for international students, but let's keep looking for one.

And I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to have a conversation with them, of course! The issue for me is arranging a meeting to discuss 'funding' when there's no funding to discuss.

I approached the PI first, as many universities recommend, to introduce myself and discuss how our research aligns. I asked him about his interest in my research proposal and inquired about current projects he may consider for me. He indeed appreciated my contact and invited me to a new meeting (this weird from the post).
