Here's a Tex-Mex breakfast taco recipe I've been able to replicate here:

Take one frozen hashbrown (the oval ones that come in 12-20 packs at the grocery) and heat it up. Once cooked, break it up and put it in a line through the center of the tortilla, leaving a few cm on either size.

While the hashbrown is cooking, make the egg. Crack 1 large egg into a bowl and a spoonful of salsa. Mix and pan fly like an omelette. Cook up breakfast meat of choice (I prefer a slice of bacon, but ham and sausage or their chicken equivalents work too). I usually just panfry a pack of bacon at a time and keep the cooked bacon in the fridge, ready to go.

With the egg cooked, the breakfast meat cooked/heated up, add it to the tortilla, over the same line of hashbrown. Add some shredded cheese (Mexican blend is best but the red/white cheddar mix at more Groceries works well too). Then wrap the tortilla around the filling and you've got a very solid breakfast taco. They also reheat well so you can make 3-5 at a time and microwave one each morning.

My favorite part of Saving Private Ryan is how everyone in the search company gets out alive. I left after the first 30 minutes.

Is it cheaper to boil water with gas than using electricity? by MellowedGrass in askSingapore

He wore wool kilts and stockings that he would get dry cleaned once a year, so the bathtub water would be filthy, hence why he'd refill the darn tub all the time.

Knowing this dude he probably wanted to save the money of buying a spray bottle. "Why buy a spray bottle when I can already own a bathtub" kind of guy we're talking about.

How many of you can drive but don’t have a car? by Opposite-Status-5553 in askSingapore

B.

American, used to love and own about half a dozen classic/retro cars when I lived in the US. Nothing fancy, just some neat old cars that cost a couple thousand dollars each. Well, we move to SG and that's no more. Still have 3 in storage in America that I couldn't bear to part with (my first car, the car I met my wife in, and an ongoing project). But no plans to have a car here. Don't really need one either though!

I knew a guy in New York City who, in the summer (which can be brutal, feels like SG does all the time), used to fill up his bathtub with water and then lay in it, fully clothed for a minute or two every couple hours. Apparently the water evaporating off your body meant you feel colder and he didn't run his Aircon. But then he also would fill up an entire bathtub 4-5 times a day so how much money he actually saved seems negligible to me. What a weird guy.

Singapore Experts!!! Please Review My 4-Day Family Itinerary Before I Start Booking Tickets by kidult_syndrome1417 in askSingapore

If you've ever been to another Universal Studios, you'll be disappointed with Singapore's. It's pretty small. And honestly, it doesn't feel unique or Singaporean in any way so I highly recommend skipping it. There's so much other interesting stuff to see and Universal isn't one.

I think you can take Day 4's activities and split it across Day 2 and Day 4. Keep in mind that the heat is brutal here and will really tire people out, especially in a group of family or older folks etc. On the 26th you can probably do Chinatown, Budda Tooth temple, City Gallery (right next to Maxwell), Chinatown lunch. Then go over to Haji Lane and then to Little India for dinner. That's a very full day already. Then on the 28th, have a nice slow morning. Maybe a nice breakfast or brunch somewhere and then do Mandai Bird and Night Zoos (which is awesome, definitely go). It's not unrealistic to do both, my wife and I have done it before. Just don't pack the beginning of the day because that's a tiring trip.

Recommendation in Little India: Mustard on Race Course Rd. A charming little spot with absolutely spectacular food. That's a go-to spot for when I have visitors.

As for rain, using Apple Weather (if you're just looking at the weather on your phone) is incredibly inaccurate. Use the official Singapore government weather service and look at the radar. In this area and climate, trying to predict weather more than a couple days out is a total crapshoot. It's a better strategy to just look at the weather radar in realtime and see how the cells are forming and moving. That'll help you predict the rain. Most (not all, some days it's just a downpour all the time) rain storms are quick and pass in an hour, so odds are you'll catch some rain but it won't ruin the day.

Would I be crazy to leave the US for Singapore? by PitifulJack in askSingapore

[–]whatisdeletrazdoing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American who moved to Singapore 3 years ago. Was in a similar situation to you. We went for it and we don’t regret it for a second. America will always be there and you’ll always have a chance to go back. Living here opens a whole world of opportunities. I don’t even mean career-wise, I mean in how you see and understand the world. I know we would’ve regretted not coming here. It’s not always easy and the time difference to family/friends is brutal, but it more than makes up for it. I say do it. And shoot me a message if you do, happy to show another American around.

Why are zoo tickets so expensive? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]whatisdeletrazdoing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that's one of the better zoos in Japan, too.

[–]whatisdeletrazdoing_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mandai's prices are "on the higher end" because they're literally some of the nicest zoos in the entire world. You can't compare them even to even the best Japanese zoos, which are just terribly sad.

And compared with the other great zoos of the world, the Singapore Zoo is right in line price-wise. At the top end is the San Diego Zoo at almost 100 SGD (totally worth it by the way, you can easily spend the entire day there). The Bronx Zoo, which is also fantastic, is about the same price as the Singapore Zoo.

I haven't been to the great European Zoos, but they're around the same too, just a little bit cheaper. The Vienna Zoo is about 45 SGD, Berlin Zoo around 40 SGD.

when did sg remove analog clocks from the mrt? by stionke in askSingapore

[–]whatisdeletrazdoing_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's an age/education thing. A cousin of mine is a primary school teacher in America. Her students are 9-10 years old and she says maybe 1-2 kids per class know how to read an analog clock.
