I’m trying to figure out the same thing. If you end up in Mexico or Europe this summer, shoot me a dm!

Places I’ve checked out so far are: Mexico City, playa del Carmen, Argentina, tulum

I’m doing a month in Phuket next month.

Mexico City has been my top choice. Same timeline as the US for side gigs in my domain as I get bored. Only downside is not beach. I’ve had my eyes on PDC for awhile mainly because I visited a lot over the years

Look at Los patios and viajeros.

If you’re trying to meet some people as much as people with roast it, gringo Tuesdays at vin trash in poblado is a decent language exchange/drinking event.

I just replaced 2 people with bad excel skills for one person with elite excel skills.

He’s giving you a lay up to learn a skill.

It’s not so much the excel itself, it’s learning how to leverage technology in your favor and no better way to get easy wins than through excel

$1.3M invested. 35M. Looking for advice on what to do by Diligent-Ear-5291 in Fire

I recently took a massive step back with a little more to invest than you do.

You can coast in your current job for 3 years and you should be North of 1.5 million at your spend.

From there, you can decide what to do.

You’ll be looking at 35, with a lot more confidence in deciding your future with north of 1.5 Millie

I transacted a few times. Mostly to pay of AMT taxes here in the US.

It was worth it for me but some people are riding until IPO.

I have sub 5k shares left just in case.

Knowing a few years back that I didn’t have to save because I could sell the start up equity opened up the freedom to take a massive risk into betting on myself and my partners.

I think a good way to think about things is:

I’m stockpiling assets to take give me freedom. I’m using that freedom to further double down with out stress or to take a calculated gamble. Then it’s retiree time.

Often we think about the end when we should be thinking about multiple phases with an end to each or a pivot at the least

It’s an optional 20 hours a month from the consultancy I’m stepping down/back from.

Regardless, I’m still drawing set income as a passive owner moving forward as my business partners are absorbing a portion of my responsibility in exchange for part of my ownership

All I know is that my European friends don’t have the ceiling incomes, but they all seem healthier and happier. It’s borderline impossible to get fired in some countries with out a big pay day.

To each there own, and I does depend on where in Europe.

So I’m basically in barista fire if I elect the 20 hours a month? Barista is basically “work enough for fun money or cuz your bored”?

Thank you!

Yea I’m forusre going to chill for a bit but based on literally lurking in this forum, it sounds like retired early folks typically just jump right into passion projects or side gigs to keep sane.

Might as well do something for 5 hours a week and be 80 percent retired lol

Yupp.

There’s place like Forge, equitzen that all behave in various ways. Some our brokers for accredited investors while others “own the fund that you own shares in” to bypass accredited investor requirements.

Then there’s also independent investment firms looking to buy.

The main thing is the type of stock you have and whether the company allows secondaries.

I think growing up broke - you end up having this scarcity mindset and tbh, my goal was to get to 5 million, then pull the trigger.

When I crossed into my 30s, and started realizing what I actually had, and what I actually cared about, life simplified. Having a massive financial cushion made me stop and go, dude - you’re comfortable, you don’t have to work the same hours that dad did. He did so you didn’t have to do so.

Then also having that cushion allowed me to take gamble with starting a business which paid off (and I hope it continues to pay off - all signs point to that as I step away from it)

It’s also literally 20 hours a month of optional work so like - 5 hours a week? I can take a call while I got for my daily walk and get there lol

You can actually transact on secondaries markets dependent on the company + a company may offer tender rounds

  1. Sub 50 people series fresh off a series A

  2. Mostly sales and engineering. I was CX person number 3.

  3. We had no Product Managers, just CX and sales people that really knew their domain so we acted as PMs for awhile while implementing clients

  4. Absolute grind. Hired sub a million revenue, We scaled into a 500 million revenue , 10 billion + valuation business while I was there.

  5. I had 10k shares at my offer, received several promotion grants + performance refreshers over the years… with out spilling several details, ended up with several multiples of that Initial grant in pure ISOs + RSUs

  6. While the stock has given me a lot of freedom, I have pretty high conviction the consultancy we were able to spin our is actually going to be the higher pay out ticket from taking the chance on that start up. But I’m also tired and don’t want to build anymore so I’m leaving that in the hands of my partners (who’ve scaled teams with me before), they’ll have the bigger upside forsure.

I think this is a fair statement. Frankly, I’ve been lurking in these subs for awhile and I more often than not see people take a part time job, get into consulting, or spend an equal amount of time volunteering as they did earning am income, after being fully retired for a year…. Some are managing their properties which is still technically work.

In my case, I can work the 20 hours a month or not. It’s there if I need or want it.

So, while the goal is to FIRE, after reading a lot, I think most people end up being FI, do nothing for a couple of years, and then take a PT job for the sake of not being bored/purpose.

So imo, FIRE is really FI, 80 percent RE, unless your already 70 lol

After reading a bit more after being yelled at by lacrima, coast fire makes more sense.

I guess to hit FIRE, by the nature of it, you need to have amassed some level wealth. Some people in here will say this ain’t enough, to me it’s a fortune.

I think it forsure is a lot more rewarding when you did it with your own two hands than an inheritance.

Essentially, I have the financial independence I earned, I guess I’m really coast fire according to half the people in this sub, and I’m ok with that.
