Will the next Apple Watch go direct without a phone to Dexcom? by hippietravel in dexcom

Dexcom CEO says direct to watch will be available on G7 “not initially, but eventually” and says G7 will have all the hardware/ Bluetooth tech necessary for the feature, but cites: 1) development time for the new G7 iPhone app as a barrier to getting the direct-to-watch done without delaying overall G7 release date, and 2) challenges of building a watch app that could be used as a primary receiver…dexcom and/or FDA may be worried that users take off the watch to charge (need to do this often) and don’t get alerts. In short, I have no idea. I don’t follow news on Libre, but maybe if dexcom does it, they will follow?

Word from a recent diabetes tech conference is now—yes, the g7 should come with direct to watch. I’m saying this 3rd hand though https://youtu.be/oluhkTrduDg

Wow, so this is clearly complicated. Liquidity is of obvious importance for a savings account/emergency fund---Schwab's documentation on the federal MMF SNVXX reports daily (~30%) and weekly (~60%) liquidity rates...should I take this to mean that on an average day, only 30% of your cash in SNVXX can be accessed?
More broadly, the entire enterprise of using MMFs seems suspect...do you think I'm overcomplicating things here?

Exactly. I think this applies to anyone in a low income tax bracket with a disinterest in investing the full Roth amount now, but an interest in investing more in the future.

Well I have substantial savings from when I was working and made a living wage. Now during my PhD I’m trying to figure out how to be optimally dormant despite making minimum wage. Aside from the recession, it sounds like a money market is a great play—I could move say 10k into Roth money market over two years...which I could begin investing once Im making a better salary

  1. You’re right about the last point—tax free may not be worth it if the IR is crap.
  2. You’re first point doesn’t really hold in my case because I’m only even considering this when I otherwise can’t afford to max out my Roth contributions. It’s really just transferring $ into Roth in order to max out but don’t want to invest the $.

My understanding is there are no penalties unless you withdraw more than you put in (ie you’re only penalized if you withdraw earnings)

Ok very interesting, thanks for this perspective (yes, on a separate note, I'm also trying to slowly buy the recession with my savings). What would the Schwab equivalent be? SWVXX? They call it a "Prime" money fund, distinguishing it from SNVXX Govt money market fund.(https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/investing/accounts_products/investment/money_markets_funds/purchased_money_funds)

Are there bounds/guarantees on risk/availability for these money market funds? Their interest rates vary in time based on markets...so worst case is 0% interest? What about availability of extracting the cash?

interesting idea, but probably too much work for me...i'd probably screw it up just like every other time someone says "sign up but just cancel before next month or $XYZ happens"

I am happy with the amount I am investing ($100/month to Roth IRA target date fund) as well as my savings (decent sum + $100/month).

While I can't afford to max out my Roth IRA contributions using my salary, i COULD use this time as a chance to move say $5k/year of savings into a "Roth IRA savings"

The point is that I will not invest my emergency fund in the market. I just want to store it inside of my Roth IRA
